View Full Version : Wii Boxing makes me sweat

Anyone else?
And no, I'm not overweight (infact, I'm way underweight). I played about 45 minutes of boxing; really getting into it. I started sweating really bad.
I did manage to win every match I played though, sometimes KO-ing my opponents on the first knock down.
EDIT: Now I just need to wait for giftmas for my own Wii. In the mean time I'll be playing my girlfriends step-brothers Wii. :)

Tennis and Boxing will make you sweat.

It's just a physical activity you weren't use to. I've known marathon runners who get quickly winded on stairmasters, simply because the motion isn't what they're use to. The idea of an overall "fitness" or "skill" instead of a specific one is all but gone.

I haven't been able to figure out what determines if an opponent rises or not. Is it random? How do you KO the opponent on the first knock-down?

So is the gamer stereotype now going to be pasty white with strong arms?

I'm not quite sure. I noticed that I KO-ed on the first knockdown if I got some really good combos or just completely pummled the opponent. Sometimes I'd get 5-6 really hard consecutive hits on them (the kind where the game goes into a slow motion type thing).

It's a pity that what is shown on screen is so out of sync with what you're doing that it makes the whole boxing game kinda useless.

I noticed one time when I pulled my arm way back before punching, that I did some kind of super punch that knocked my opponent to the floor. I haven't been able to do it since. Anyone know how?

anyone know how to beat the boxing? i was winning every match until i got to the character that does all your training. (this is pro level at like 1500 points) he has white gloves on, everyone else had red gloves. and i cant beat the guy. i did finally break a sweat playing him b/c i started trying harder. but maybe thats the problem, the controls are sensitive and a little goes a long way, so maybe i am over powering the controls and they are not responding well. oh well, any hints on how to beat this guy?

I had a similar case. I swore that I would never buy a Nintendo console after I bought my GC and it was a piece of **** that I ended up giving away. But I actually waited in line for 29 hours to get the Wii on launch anyway. And if boxing on Wii Sports makes you sweat then you need to start exercising a little. I don't sweat when playing it and I'm not exactly in good shape.

Well my house definetly isn't cold. My crackhead mom is always cold so the heater is always on and because of that my house is usually never under 80° F. But I guess I'm used to fighting and stuff maybe thats it.

Wiii looks like it is a game designed to make gamers(who dont work out that much and dont get offended cause i am one of these people) loose weight and become more appealing to the public. good idea. im worried that gamers might not like actually having to get up and go to hve fun(probably because people play games to relax after doing work of some sort). What do you people reckon? (please dont get angry at me cause im new and dont like offending people, if i am tell me)

Maybe Wii Sports is? All I know about it is that I would never play it on my own. Nintendo is apparently working on some kind of exercise game at the moment.
I don't play games to relax so I don't know, I play games to get inspiration and to research. I don't usually say "oooh tough day at university, I'm going to play my DS!". But the Wii does have games where you just sit down, both arms rested and you merely flick the controller slightly... so I hear.

Yet the GameCube sold almost as much as the XBox and made Nintendo a ton of profit, filling their bank account more, while the DS is outselling the PSP 10-to-1 in Japan and 2-to-1 in the Unites States.
Nintendo is doing fine, and the Wii is copying the DS's marketing strategy, not the GameCube's.
Why do we get these kids that think they're market analysists because they didn't like a system? "I didn't like the GameCube, so Nintendo's going to go out of business soon." (that's what you were saying in the other thread) Ugh.

Because they reckon they're l337 haxxors and most of them are the teenager type who won't admit to liking something some people see as 'childish' because its like really uncool. Younger kids love the stuff and young adults have got over the whole too cool for something childish, we want to keep our youth anyway!!

Personnaly I think that the old N64 was the greatest. I still have one today for riddance of stress, anger and unhappiness. It's just that where I live people around me talk more about PS2 and Xbox. I don't hear about Nintendo very often now. The point is that from my perspective, people in my country arn't particualr fans of new Nintendo consoles and games. The Gamecube was the first console I'd owned since a MegaDrive (Genesis for those of you outside Europe), and completely got me back into gaming.
Having owned a Wii for 3 days now, I can honestly say that this is going to be a massive hit. Bundling Wii Sports with the console was a stroke of genius - my fiancee's parents were both playing it over the weekend and having a great time, and they're the kind of people who'd normally go nowhere near a games console.
Developers are going to be taking a look at a very different kind of multiplayer market from now on.

my wife got 5 home runs the first time she did the baseball.. i was in shock!!!
i couldn't get any.. but i matched her eventually :D
i've not had any baseball ones yet..
it all depends which tasks you have unlocked in your wii training regime.. and then you just get 3 random tasks for your actual fitness test each day..
i also assume that if you dont have your nunchuk attached, you won't get any boxing ones (which I haven't yet.. )..
if you do the fitness/training everyday, you'll improve loads..
it's very similar in theory to the Brain Age game on ds

Yeah it does ask me if I want to skip the ones with the nunchuck but I figured that's cheating. I haven't played that much Wii in the last day or two, Wii Sports is a bit boring for one player on his own. :( I really wish Amazon had delivered Zelda and Wii Play by now. :( :(

i am crap at baseball, think i got 4 points.. lol.. and have about < 200 on golf.. can't remember boxing.. think it's 200ish..

Yeah I agree. I don't really get the whole baseball thing. The rules of the game confuse me too, every time I hit the ball badly it says "Foul ball" and I get another go. Surely if you mess up that's it? Also I don't have a clue what those dots at the top left of the screen mean.

There's strikeouts (3 and you batter), outs (3 and you change sides)...I think foul balls might be the other one.
I beat the CPU 13-3 on Saturday, the 10th Doctor Who got 3 triples which was nice.. I've found it's easier to hold the remote with one hand than 2.

So? How does that change the fact that Nintendo made a profit on the GameCube, have a freakin' TON of money in the bank, and aren't going anywhere anytime soon?
Nintendo is like Apple. A lot of people have no idea they still exist or think that they're going under or think that "Macs suck", when in actuality Apple is very profitable and doing extremely well.
Oh yeah, and PSP does NOT outsell Nintendo by a lot ;) PSP has the popular opinion in some areas of the United States due to aggressive advertising and trying to be cool, but nobody can actually afford it; in actual sales numbers, more people buy DS's.
Walk into your local GameStop and ask them, "Do you sell more PSP's or Nintendo DS's?"

A foul ball is a ball that was hit but went out of the field.
It counts against you, but the last one never counts (you can't be "out" because of a foul).
A strike is when you swing and miss, or don't swing for a valid ball.
Three strikes and you're out (or two fouls and a strike).

i still havent busted a sweat playing any of the games, dunno whats up with you guys...you know you can just flick your wrist as opposed to moving your whole arm if you want. up to you ;p
Anyhow, as for the first poster on i thin the second page talking about "the wii was designed to make you lose weight'
that would be incorrect. The wii was not atall designed for that purpose. A lot of websites/magaizes/whatever reported that it might help with that, due to you become more physically involved, but weight loss was never a goal in terms of wii design. A higher level of interactivity/immersiveness was.

Just like in other boxing games (if you don't have it already, get Fight Night Round 2 gamecube!) I've played, it's all about the jab, with a few hooks and uppercuts thrown in.
The sensible thing is to keep you guard up at head level most of the time and then just tilt your wrists forward to perform jabs. Don't move your whole forearm like you would in real life, just make a movement like you were using a stick to hit a drum in the air in front of you.

First thing everyone whos played on my Wii says is "thats so much fun!!" and thats pretty much exactly what its al about is it not? EDIT:Me and a mate from my course are meant to be doing an essay but he came over for a book but i told him about the Wii so he wanted to go..obviously. So ther we are playing tennis by the time we realised what time it was we'd been playin for an hour :S woops. were having another game before we go to the library tho :P
Ive found with boxing and also sword fighting in Red Steel if you just take your time and concentrate you fare better. Once get the hang of it tho it kinda seems a little easy but its so much fun that your laffing away and messing on it makes no difference :D
ps. did anyone play on it constantly from the second it was set up till you were so tired you had to sleep liek i did?? 4- half past midnight:D

the last few days we have been playing wii sports nearly every day
