Well it seems that I'm in the 40.28% with 29 of 72 votes. Steve came through with what had been rumored! I'm hoping that it will be a success. It should really take off by the end of the year with the Windows users being included. I know that the international Mac users are disappointed, but laws are complicated. Please be patient with Steve! ;)

Thats because you have anti-aliasing set to 'only above 8'. Change it in your system preferences.

Personally, it would have been a 'Wow!' score, if that store had worked outside the US.. So typically Apple...

So... Here's a link to a petition against Apple..!

I really like what Apple is doing with iTunes but their music service is still lacking content.

Unless it was just with my computers, I couldn't get several of the Genre to work earlier today (error 402). They seems to work now.

nothing too spectacular. A pretty good event though.

(no strong feelings)

A buck is a little high for me. For some full albums, the price of about $9 is pretty attractive, but I really don't want to pay a whole dollar for one song on its own, because I don't know how long I'll like it. If there were more than 100 songs per artist, I would find $1 an ok price to make some greatest-hits type mixes. Now, a dollar for 2 songs is great, and I'd buy away at that price. Unfortunately, I hear apple is paying about 65¢ a song, so that isn't quite going to happen. 65¢ would be ok, but there has to be a margin in there somewhere...

The service looks good, but I voted "disappointed" due to the service not being available outside the US. I've signed that petition linked to a few posts back, and it's good to see that it's getting a lot of signatures (it was the 3rd most active petition on the site when I looked).

It will be launched internationally... but the logistics of doing a global launch for such a service is likely way beyond the capabilities of Apple... And most other companies in one go....

They'll get there though... ;)

iTunes text looks great on my 1GHz TiBook... the text looks alittle sharper than the old over anti-aliased text of before....

The new iPods are much better aesthetically speaking... I always the thought the old ones were alittle dodge in the design stakes...

All in all.. not bad for a nondescript Monday in April.... :) :p :p

I think that Apple came through with the goods on the 28th. The iPods are finally updated and re-designed; The scary part is that the rumor sites got this one right, with accurate predictions of the dock, Quicktime-like buttons and USB 2.0 cables (oh, the shame!).

The new iTunes is a big improvement on the older versions, with a great new codec and a polished interface. The iTunes Music Store is clearly a work-in-progress but even in its current state, it is the biggest Apple news since the iMac. This service will make Apple relevant to anyone who loves music and technology. If the AOL rumors about iTunes are true then we will surely see a lot more content made available through this service.

I only hope that Apple makes the most out of the demand for the new iPods. It seems like every time they have a hot product nobody can get it for months (17" PowerBooks come to mind).

I am happy with the announcements. I have been waiting to buy an iPod, and now I have one on order!:)

From what I've read, it would have been a "WOW" if it was available here in the UK. It sounds great and so simple. I really like the idea of the 30 second clip. Is that available already in UK? (I'm away from my Mac for 2 days so I haven't downloaded yet).

As it is, I can't comment on the product but I voted "Disappointed" because Apple didn't even offer a timescale for European implementation as they did for Windows implementation. That is a terrible attitude towards the millions of non-US customers who have been loyal to Apple for many years.

I won't be surprised if we still don't have it in 12 months or more, as is the case with ordering prints and books from iPhoto.

When I can get the songs for free? Hehe, well, I'm not planning on it.

I would prefer a mac kazaa, but it looks like that isn't going to happen any time soon :(.

Overall I'm pleased but higher bit rates at the Music Store would be nice for genres that could take advantage of it and a lot of classical "songs" aren't available for 99¢, which is disappointing. 128kbps is fine for rock and alternative, although I find there to be a noticeable loss in classical music. 99¢ isn't exactly accurate; I've noticed quite a few classical tracks available only as an album set. A lot of the albums are around $50, so I see no real benefit over CD's. The Music Store will be a big money savor for me in the end but only for rock and alternative music.

You can listen to a 30 second sound bite of each song! ;) What a great way to pass the time away! :p

Good idea about higher bit-rates. Steve Jobs mentioned in his announcement of this service that some files would sound better than CDs so high-bitrate files will most likely become an option sometime in the future. Better than CD quality would be one more incentive for people to buy music online instead of AudioCDs.
