slow DVD > HD transfer speeds?

just received my new 17" C2D mbp and the build quality of this thing is awesome! no dead pixels for a change.

the only problem i have had is slow transfer speeds from dvd-rom to hard disk.
it took around 50 minutes to transfer 7.7gb of final cut pro lesson files onto my hard disk,would you consider this slow? :rolleyes:
