Will just any old pc mic work in OS X?
I would like to buy a couple mics, one for a PC user and one for my mom who uses my old mac mini (no mic on those :( ). Do I need a certain type? What should I look for?

You'll need a USB mic, since Macs don't have pre-amplified mic-in ports, just line-in. Mic signals are much lower than line-level, so they need to be pre-amplified to be audible. Just get a USB mic and you won't have any troubles.

With one of these you can use most normal mics.

i'm interested in this too... I don't get why my brother should need an additional hub for a microphone to work on his mac mini. Are there simple, cheap, USB mics out there?
