FCP capture inconsistency!?

Im trying to baqtch capture from my JVC GR-DVL167EK dvmini camera but FCP5 is so inconsistent when performing this request. When i press apple + 8 to capture the message, "unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use capture now." comes up. But this doesnt make any sense, i have my camera connected through firewire, turned on, with tape inside and my easy setup is correct (DV PAL 48Khz, Firewire PAL).

It has worked and does work on occasion, but very inconsistently. Another thing i have noticed is that the FCP software seems to be quite unstable at the moment and regularly says App not responding!???

Anyone know what the problem is?

hm, well, I'm no expert, but it might be a compatibility issue, or you might have to check teh mode that your camera is in (example: some cameras have a special setting in menus for connection to computer)

sorry, i really don't know how to fix.

If you don't already do this you might want to have the camera connected and turned on before you launch Final Cut.
