I cant help you with changing your IP, but I can tell you how to activate a DMZ, which essentially will allow all needed ports to be opened in a game for multiplayer.

Your ISP (whoever you pay to get internet access) controls your IP. You can't change it yourself. it's like asking to change your phone number.

If it isn't static, it'll change over time, but it's not up to you.

I take it you got banned from a site, eh? Or you're trying to work around your ISP's restrictions? IF it's either of those, I guess you've learned your lesson...

learned my lesson... me... pifff.. the only lesson im going to learn from this is how to change my ip address.

Why cant i just release and renew it like i can on XP? whenever i had this problem in the past on my pc i would simply unplug the modem, leave it for a while then release and renew ip and i would get a new one. anything like that on the OS X?

The modem's IP is separate from either PC or Mac. You'd have to release/renew from within the modem's setup utility.

That just changes your IP address on your own home network. That has nothing to do with your home's IP address, which your service provider provides.

You cant change this from Mac OS, Windows, Linux, Solaris, or anything else... it has to be changed by the ISP.

For future reference, to change your Mac's IP address go to System Preferences -> Network -> Built in Ethernet. You will see a Renew DHCP button there.

Well, that's not necessarily true if he's not on a home network, e.g. his Mac is connected directly to the modem.

In any case even changing your ISP-assigned IP address is only going to work a limited number of times before you eventually work through the whole range. So... behave yourself ;)
