Rock, classical, jazz, country, folk, whatever...

I am currently studying the Eccles Sonata in G Minor and playing Holst's St. Paul suite in my Orchestra. I'm also playing a few U2 and Radiohead tunes on bass guitar for the heck of it.

What are you playing, and on what instrument?

Gearing up for a classical piano recital in April:

Bach Prelude and Fuge in E (WTC I)
Mozart sonata in Bb K570
Rachmaninoff Elegie
Rachmaninoff Prelude in C (op.32)
Shostakovich Prelude and Fugue in a (op.87)

Also working on jazz:
transcribing K. Jarrett solo
alterations and tritone subs over Blues

music is fun!

ooh, love Rachmaninoff.
BTW, you reminded me that I'm also playing Cousin Mary, Blue Bossa, and Fly Me to the Moon in my school's jazz band.

Bass player. I've pretty much exhausted Primus so I'm playing metal most of the time (Dream Theater) and punk on the side [Rancid, (older)AFI]

I'm not sure how many of you have seen the video game commercial with the really soft music .. "All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces...." (Mad World by Gary Jules). It's a catchy song in a haunting sort of way. I just had to learn it.

Other songs learned recently (on guitar):
Bad, bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce
Roses - Outkast
We're not Gonna Take it - Twisted Sister

Next, I want to learn some Killswitch Engage.

Bagpipe stuff. MacLeod of Raasay's salute. The Noose and the Ghillies. The Geese in the Bog.

Yeah, I know, bagpipe music has weird names. That's cuz pipers brain cells have all been rearranged from too much loud noise.

I'm not exactly a musician (I dabble) but I just purchased the sheet music Dvorak's String Quartet No. 12 "The American", should be arriving any day now.

Next, go for some Victor Wooten. :D

I'm working on the second movement from Telemann's Sonata in F Minor for my jury in... 2 weeks. I like the entire piece, but I only have ten minutes, so the second mvmt. with repeat is just about long enough. :p
I think next semester I might be working on the Clinard Concerto for Unaccompanied Euphonium, or perhaps something by Uber.

For our Jazz Band concert next Monday, I think we have 15-20 charts lined up, some of them really tough! (Monday, Dec. 11, 8PM, Sapinsley Hall, Rhode Island College, GO! :D)

Obviously since I post almost every drum thread around here, that's what i play :)

I take lessons in every genre. I have studied basic funk and am working on advanced funk now. Studying that coincides with my past studies of Syncopation, Samba, Latin Jazz, and now I'm onto Jazz (I'm probably missing some more :p )

My band plays Hard Rock/Alternative/ Metal stuff so i play rock music with them but i try to incorporate what i learned in other genres to make more interesting beats and stuff, not just standard rock junk.

I play axe and sax :) on the guitar I'm into more folky stuff at the mo on my nice ovation acoustic, and on the sax It's mostly Stan Getz and just playing shuffle on iTunes and just improvising over the top - luckily I have no thrash metal in my library, else I'd be exhausted

Cool! I was at my friend's youth symphony concert last night, and they played Dvorak's 6th symphony. Geez, it's, well, amazing (and so is the fact that my friend, who is 13, is the principal bassist in one of the midwest's best youth orchestras!
Next, go for some Victor Wooten. :D

yes, yes, yes! Victor's work with Bela Fleck is simply breathtaking. I mean, He is SO amazing. Love the Show of Hands album. So soulful...

I'm an amateur, unqualified Clarinet player who listens to metal! I'll be doing some or other Grade 4 or something next year but really, I suck! And the worst is I've been at it for 4 years:cool:
