I want to start a thread here to help everyone (and me! :D ) who is currently looking to get either a PS3 or Wii. I know both these systems are nearly impossible to find, but perhaps with each others' help, we won't need to wait til after the holidays to get our hands on the system(s) of our choice.

I propose we post any in-store sightings of available systems, including store, location, date, time and ideally, the number of systems they have available.

Let me start:
I stopped off at Toys R Us in Richmond Hill, Ontario Canada... the one at Yonge & Bayview. I was there checking to see if they had any Wii's (which they didnt  ). However, I was very surprised to learn they had ONE 20gb PS3 available. This was today, November 30, at around 6:40pm. I hope this helps some one out there... if you want to try your luck tomorrow morning.

Just wanted to add in that if any of you guys are looking for a PS3/Wii and you know a store in another state/etc has them in stock, you can try calling them and ask to have it shipped to you. ;) Just a heads up.

Charge 3 of them, then sell 2 of them on Ebay for $900 each. Bam! Free 3rd PS3. I would do that if there were PS3's available to me.

Best Buy, Circuit City, and possibly Target will have Wiis on Sunday. I got a Wii on my first try last Sunday by going to Best Buy at 7:30. They had 63 of them and I was #19 in line.

Not sure how many they will have this time (of course it depends on the store and location) but I hear they are basically doing the same thing as last week.

This is really starting to get me mad... why are all the stores waiting until Sunday?! People would buy them today. Wii Seeker originally said today for Target and Toys 'R Us, but now it says Dec. 3rd, and that's for all the stores in my area. Sunday isn't a very convenient day for me. :(

Does anyone know if any stores plan to sell Wiis regularly during the week? I could easily go after class.

Well, it is the Christmas shopping season and they figure if they are going to put it in their Sunday ad - they might as well have them. Sure people would buy them as they appear, but the stores goal is to get you in so maybe you buy something else...

from what i understand, stores get Wiis on Fridays but most stores hold on to them until Sunday since they're all putting them in Sunday advertisements. Also, most, if not all, Best Buy stores got PS3s either yesterday or today, but very limited quantities. So I'm guessing other stores probably got a few as well (Target, WalMart?).

Well I do realize it's for the Sunday shopping for Christmas, but I just find it unfair to others who can't make it there at that time. My family and I have church Sunday mornings. I may have to skip a week because I'm seriously getting desperate. :o

Catch a late morning service. Best Buy has normally passed out tickets and had their systems all redeemed by 11:00.

The Target I work at in VA has gotten two shipments, on two different days, of four 20GB PS3's (totaling 8) earlier this week. Of note, they arrived via FedEx not on the Target truck delivery from the distribution center (DC) and therefore going early to Target will not get you one. FedEx usually delivers to our store around 10AM.

20GB PS3 shipments:
Monday 11-27-06 - 2 boxes (2 in a box)
Tuesday 11-28-06 - 2 boxes (2 in a box)

Of note, the PS3 boxes are unmarked so that it is impossible to tell what is in the box until opened.

Wii's have not been sighted since their first delivery via the usual DC shipment.

Okay, things just got very exciting for me! :D My mom brings up a good point: why not go to Saturday evening mass? Duh! Why didn't I think of that? I'd have to go alone, but it's better than having to wait until after Christmas to get a Wii. I'm suddenly very happy. :) So I was wondering... since our local Best Buy opens at 10 AM (later than I expected), would arriving at 8 AM be too early? That's my plan for now. I have to actually see if they'll have Wiis in. I'll be checking the papers tomorrow for ads.

It depends on your area. You can check earlier to see if there are people lining up and that should give you a good estimate. You should also go ask the workers, they might be handing out vouchers earlier.

Just make sure the Wii is in Best Buy's ad again. I know it will be in the Target ad, but I hadn't heard about Best Buy. Also, Target opens at 8:00 AM so that may be a win-win.

Is there a definite confirmation on the Target ad? I keep calling to check with them and have heard "definitely Sunday" to "we don't have any now and don't know when we'll get them".

Best Buy was similarly evasive when I checked with them last night. Looks like I'll just have to pick up a paper on my way out the door Sunday and see who's advertising...unless any of the sites that get the Sunday ads post them early.

That's because its confidential and Target employees could get into trouble for releasing that information. The stores do have the ad by now though so that is why you are getting conflicting reports.

As far as them knowing whether they'll get them on the truck delivery on Sunday or not is probably bull. Few people at the stores could even tell you what would be on the next days truck let alone who would talk to you.

The latest we can actually see what we are getting is two trucks out (maybe a third or fourth if we are getting two trucks in one night (called a double), and to see four trucks out you'd have to have two doubles in a row).

Lastly, and of most importance, just because Target has something on ad does not mean that all stores will have said item in stock!

Thanks for the info, QuarterSwede. I figured it was a mix of secrecy and plain not knowing - it's just frustrating as a customer trying to decode the conflicting messages and figure out if it's going to be worthwhile camping out somewhere early Sunday morning.

Good point about the ad - I'm thinking Best Buy is my "Best Bet". :)

Is it even worth it to try to pick a Wii up to sell? I'd like to get one eventually , but need the cash for other things (car) right now, so the Wii for me is going to have to wait. The Wiis on ebay seem to be going for a little over $400 + shipping I'm thinking I may get up early to browse the Sunday adds and then possibly to Target if it looks like they may have them.

Okay so I just got the Saturday paper and the Wii appears in ads for Circuit City and Target... but curiously not Best Buy. Does this confirm that they will not have them in? Target and Best Buy are literally across the street from each other so it's not a problem if one doesn't have it. I just have to get to the right store early enough.

I didn't even bother asking anyone at Best Buy. I'm just assuming they will have some since they did last Sunday and many sites are saying Dec. 3rd is "the day."

Anyone?

I think it's pretty safe to say that there WILL be lines. A great source to read up on this Wii craze is Amazon's forum: http://www.amazon.com/gp/discussionboard/cd/forum.html/ref=cm_cd_dp_sap/102-1512768-1827300?ie=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D5FVR0TDJZT9&cdAnchor=B0009VXBAQ

Well Circuit City and Target both have Wiis advetised in their Sunday adds (not Best Buy), but they didn't say how many units. Target opens in an hour (8 A.M) and CC in 3, so I might run over to Target and see if there are people waiting. If so, it's not worth it.

Then the guy in front of me had his girlfriend call and said that the TRU had around 40, and the Target we were at didn't tell us how many they had so we went over there. Wow, what a morning! I got to Target around 5:00 AM or so. I was literally there for less than five minutes when a guy comes up to me and practically says I won't get a Wii since there are xx amount of people in front of me and they are only getting xx amount of units in. He said it in a very nice way and I really appreciated his help. He suggested I go to Circuit City since they didn't open until 10:00. Well I got there and the line was still pretty short.

Long story short: I was #15 in line and they had 30 Wiis. Counting the 20 minutes I spent in my car during break time, my waiting period was about five hours. Was it cold? Yes. Was it worth it? Oh hell yes! :D

I can't open my Wii until my birthday (12/22), but at least I know I'll have one when the time comes. Mii happy! :D

Oh and by the way, everything was very organized and the handing out of the voucers was well done. If anyone is thinking of camping next week, I suggest getting there at least four hours early. Five hours will give you a pretty good chance of aquiring a Wii. It also depends on how busy of an area you go to.

But yes, very successful day and I loved it. I would definitely do it again. Being my first time camping out for a product, I've learned to bring a lawn chair, a heavy blanket and possibly some food.

I had to work this morning so I drove by Target before they opened. They apparently handed out vouchers at 3am this morning for Wii's and PS3's. I got out and talked to some of the people standing there (mostly seemed to be parents) to see which they were getting (just curious). All the parents I spoke with were wanting Wii's. After speaking with them for 15-20 minutes all the people with vouchers showed up for the stores opening. NONE of them wanted their systems. They all came back trying to sell the vouchers to those who showed up in line before opening not realizing the vouchers had already been given out. Lots of teenage/college age kids trying to make 3-400 dollars off of their vouchers.

Now here's my rant:
I am fine with people buying these to make money. If you can make some money to better your situation by all means go for it if you are not breaking any laws. What I am not fine with is these stores keeping their inventories and announcing "launch days" for the public to know they will have them to sell on one day. All this is doing is creating opportunities for those without children or without full-time jobs the chance to go get vouchers and sell them for profit or get systems and sell them for profit. These stores are thus eliminating any families who cannot afford to pay double for a system the chance to get their kids a Wii for Christmas. This is the case for my sister. She just had her 3rd child in late October and cannot afford her time or money to get a Wii the way it is being made available (for my nephews). Most parents cannot camp out or pay extra for these systems. Why not let those who are already shopping at the stores be able to find them randomly and buy them? These stores are thus rewarding people who are going to buy nothing else from them and in a majority of the cases I saw this morning, buy nothing from them, but just come there to get vouchers/tickets to make money off of. I would almost guarantee all those people in line without vouchers spend a lot more at Target than those who waited all night for them. It would be better for the store and the customers if they would stop this "next-release day" nonsense and sell them as they get them.

I myself can wait for them to be available. I have a busy December at work, have a 360, play WoW a lot, and have a friend 3 blocks from me who just got one, but I'd love to be able to get one for my nephews b/c it's all they ever talk about. And I imagine there are many, many families in the same situation who will not be able to get their children one b/c of this.

Sorry for the rant :)

I actually don't consider 50 to be much at all. Our CC had 30 units in, but the line was probably between 75-100 people. Also people were saying TRU had 111 units (I cannot confirm this) and over 200 people were in line. Again, I cannot confirm this, but the demand is definitely there.

When there are literally thousands of the exact same item for sale, you don't need 7, 5 or even 3 days to expose people to your item. People aren't even paying attention to them until there it gets down to less than an hour. Me, I wouldn't look until it was down to 15 minutes or less.

While Sony may be releasing more units, I honestly don't see prices going down before Christmas. I can only see them increase as it nears closer. There should still be a high demand for them. For instance today at Circuit City for when I camped out for the Wii, there were only five PS3s available. That's not an impressive number at all.

But who knows, you could be right. If I was to sell a PS3, though, I'd wait until two weeks from now. You'd be surprised at what people would pay for last minute gifts, especially if you advertise free shipping or some other free gift with it.

Many Best buys are getting random shipments of PS3s in. I purchased one the day of the release at 12:30 in the afternoon. 5 random showed up and were sitting in a cart with best buy security guards. Sony is also chartering planes to ship as many as possible, that means even more in some stores, and more on the ebay market.

I believe the price of the systems will remain constant through the season on ebay, since to many systems are on the market. Some people are dissapointed they can not sell them for 2000+ and the sellers are becoming the desperate ones since they are not getting the cash they had hoped for.

Buyings Tips
As for the 20GB and the 60GB, not a big difference, If you can find a 20GB in hand and can purchase I would. The hard drive can be replaced and not void the warranty. Info below
(here[hereURL="http://ps3.qj.net/Detach-your-HDD-drive-warranty-not-voided/pg/49/aid/72438"][/URL])
Unless u need wifi, get the 20GB. Both come with HD connections, sixaxis controler, bluetooth, and blu-ray.

Best buy employes can look it up I believe, but may not want to go through the trouble for you. I have a friend that works at one in the next city, and said they have access to check when things may be coming in shipment. EB games also had 2 the other day until 6pm. Also think of places many dont think would have them such as Sears, Target, FYE.

Thanks for your help so far! I don't use ebay much, so I'm not the best at strategy. I'm thinking I may wait a few days before listing. What would a good starting price be? I'd like to have a But It Now (or should I not even bother?)

I would just set a reserve price.

No.

And go with a buy it now. Look and see what the same item has sold for with buy it now and price it accordingly. Nobody likes a reserve.

So I'll probably be putting my PS3 up on ebay in the next couple hours. Does anybody have any tips on the best way to list it? I've seen the console only go from about $850-$1000, and I'd love to get the higher end of that range. Also, how long should I set the auction? Is 24 hours O.K., or would I be better off with a longer auction?

Give it a two or three days and set a Buy it now price for the upper end of the spectrum of what you expect. Set it for about $50-100 less than the higher end of what you see similar setups selling for. If it lasts the whole 2-3 days I'd be amazed. You'll probably pull a second bidder on one of the pricier systems as one gets bid up past your BIN price.

The problem is that while looking at PS3's last night, I saw auctions (for the 60GB console only) ranging in price from $850-$1,025, so I'm not sure I would place the Buy It Now price.

Given this range and the demand I'd give it a 3 day auction with a $1000 BIN price. Should be time enough for some of the disgruntled second placers on some of the high end of the prices to spot yours.

Of course I just make this stuff up as I go along, but I do have a small history of selling on eBay that has netted some good money.

This is less of an issue if I use buy it now, but are incentives (i.e. if bid reaches $x, free game...) a good idea?

That might work but I don't think it would work on me. If you're doing that you run the chance of irking someone if the winning for like $25 less than the free game price. You might be better off doing a free shipping after $x and set that as an artificial maximum so that if anyone gets close they only pay that set amount and get some of the shipping subsidized.

and I did some searching of completed listings and found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-Sony-PlayStation-3-PS3-60-GB-60GB-Console-IN-HAND_W0QQitemZ190058829342QQihZ009QQcategoryZ62054QQtcZphotoQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) one which ended for $830

Don't look at the auctions. Look at the BIN's. You will see that the BIN's are typically higher than the auctions. A lot of people don't want to mess with the snipers at the end of an auction.

Edit: Nevermind. There don't seem to be many buy it nows and those that sold sold for less than $900.

ebay seems to have more PS3's than buyers at this point. I was looking around there and i was amazed on how many listings there are, many, or dare I say most had no bids on them. The ones that had bids were either barely making a profit, or at most making $100. I was thinking to sell my 60GB PS3 on ebay as I have found the Wii to be a more enjoyable gaming experience, but i may just sell it for retail to one of my friends who really is hot on getting one.

You could put an advert on craigs list or something to sell locally for $250 over cost and see what happens. If I were a person willing to pay more for a PS3, I'd rather find it somewhere local than eBay. I'd want it that very same day.

There are to many sellers in the market, The longer you wait the less you will get. Sellers are getting desperate, some people may have used money beyond their budget and are worried not to get a 300% return on investment of purchasing a PS3. Some may have thought this as a get rich quick scheme....The winners are pre-sellers and the buyers within the first 1-3 days of its release.

Free shiping will cost you about 30-50, a free game 59.99. A more marketable idea would be a game since one is not included.

Sony is chartering planes to the US. A normal routine would consist of Sony shipping by boat, and then customers would wait weeks to get a PS3. Sony is pouring in PS3s as fast as they can. For the sellers making the statement of no more shipments, they are wrong. You are just going to have to get lucky and happen to walk in to a store when it arrives.

Just to let you know I am a CPA & CFP, take my advice.

According to many of my students, PS3s are available in both Riyadh - Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait City. I haven't actually seen one with my own eyes, but my students do seem very adament upon cross examination that these two cities do have oulets that have managed to get hold of them.

I know this won't help most of you get hold of one, but interesting none the less.

On Craigslist, two people have contacted me - one offering $800 and the other wanting to know if the PS3 is still available - but after replying I have not heard from either.

If I see no other interest by about this time tomorrow, should I place the PS3 on ebay?

I got this email about the PS3 via Craigslist

"Thanks for the reply, I will be commencing with payment through BidPay
Account..So i will pay you $1100.00 ..for the auction to be ended.....

How BidPay Works: BidPay will approve payment if ther is sufficient money in my account but if the money is not
sufficient, they will automatically deny the payment and the payment
will be mailed to your address as soon as BidPay Approves it.

Note: kindly get back to me with your full name, address, phone
number and the weight of the item.. so, that i can order BidPay to
proceed with the payment....

And i will be sending you the shipping documents, which you don't
have to pay for the shipping cost, i will be the responsible for the
shipping to destination.....by sending you the shipping documents.

Thanks And Best Regards."

Macconnection now has two wii bundles for $500 (each, of course). They also offer free (ground) shipping for all orders over $249.

There is a catch: You get a Wii and four games. Essentially the retail price should be about $450. I was about to just go for it, reasoning that the $50 is about $20 over sales tax, only to find that they charge sales tax for deliveries to me.

Oh well, maybe I'll be luckier elsewhere. Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

I've had three people interested from craigslist, but two have ended up being scammers, and the third I'm waiting to hear back from. Since I've had no interest here on MR, I may have to put it up on ebay and hope for the best.

I guess I could always keep it, which I certainly wouldn't mind, but right now it just seems a little too expensive for me.

If you can meet them in the morning, arrange to meet at a BANK. Nobody can jump you because of all the security guards and you can deposit the money immediately.

Otherwise, meet at a 24/7 place like a Wal-Mart Super Store and take a group of friends with you.
