Parallels and Gaming

I'm curious to know if anyone is running Parallels or even BootCamp and are running games made for PC's? I'm a high-end gamer (FPS's & MMO's), I know you can get WoW and EQ-EQII for Mac, I'm not sure about FPS's like Half-Life, Doom, Quake or Unreal Tournament I've never really checked.

I know it took a few years before EQ was available for Mac so I'm wondering what I can expect.

I use Boot Camp for my gaming pleasures. Parallels is absolutely no use on the gaming side of things so Boot Camp is the only way to go. I play HL2, Doom 3, Quake 4 etc etc all in Boot Camp. OS X is for work and general stuff, Windows is for games. :)

Parallel doesn't support 3-D accelaration, so no games work on it.

Bootcamp, as Spanky said, works perfectly with all games.

A Mac Intel is just another PC. The only thing that Bootcamp does is emulate BIOS (and give you drivers that you'll need in XP).

Yeah Parallels does not feature 3D Acceleration so you'll have to stick with 2D games and even those will not work well, I tried some of RaggedJimmi's games and they all worked pathetically slow in Parallels (though I just tried that chicken game).

Use Bootcamp.

My friend plays counter-strike all the time with his mactel laptop using bootcamp.

I was wondering this too I have been using my old PC for my games and I have been wanting to use my laptop with bootcamp for my games also. I play City of Heroes and City of Villians and was wondering if there was going to be a problem if my MBP 17 inch would be able to handle it. but I have I am guessing if people are playing WoW for windows then I am guessing I will have no problem.

Funny! I just tried the Parallels demo, using my games as test subjects. On my iMac 17" C2D with 644mb of ram on the Windows side the games just ran a tiny bit slower than normal (intro sequence syncing was off). Work sooo well in Bootcamp though. I'd dread to think how badly developing would run... ah well :)

I'm kind of surprised that Apple doesn't cater to the High-End gamers who often times are the ones upgrading more often than not, but then we typically buy components from NewEgg, TigerDirect or other. Seems like it would be a nice market to tap nonetheless at least software wise.

Well it didn't run slow once the game got started but it took SOOO long to open and it kinda hanged for a moment, once it loaded though, it was completely playable but oh well... like I said I only tried that chicken game and it was for a split second. By the way, the quality of your games is good (at least I had fun with Shikun and it didn't feel cheap), I'll get around to downloading satan sam sometime... kudos on the good work lol.
