I know there must be USB wireless adapters that will work with Mac os 10, which ones do work with it? Do most work or not? If they do work do they use the airport software or do you install third party software with them? Do USB wireless usb adapters work?

There may be a few, but try looking into an "Ethernet / Wireless Bridge" or a "Wireless / Ethernet Gaming Adapter" Those will work too.

Most do not work as OSX does not have built in drivers (you are expected to use Airport) and the manufacturers do not supply drivers. As noted above the more expensive Ethernet/WiFi bridges should work fine.
