I just bought my first mac, an iBook, to test the waters. I'd like to know whats a good TeX setup on the mac. For instance, whats the best tex distr for the mac. Whats a good editor and dvi viewer?
On windows i used MikTeX with WinEdt as the editor and Yap as the viewer.
On Linux, teTeX with vim and/or emacs for editing and a viewer the name of which currently eludes me, but it wan't xdvi.
What are your recomendations?
Thanks in advance for any help

Using OSX, I primarily use TexShop but a few other implementations exist... check out http://www.rna.nl/tex.html and http://www.esm.psu.edu/mac-tex/
Since I have recently started using a Mac, I also run MikTex and WinEdt via Virtual PC which is acceptable. I have yet to find a Mac editor that is as good as WinEdt...

What is TeX? I downloaded an app for it a while back but I guess I wasn't smart enough to figure it out. I couldn't tell what it was supposed to do!

TeX is a typesetting language used for creating documents.
You create your documents using a markup language that lays out the logical structure of the document. This can be done in any editor, tho some are specialised for TeX.
Next you compile the document. The compiler has built-in rules about how to create the best layout. (though you can alter these rules) the final result is an uneditable output file (pdf, or dvi) that is a very high quality document. if you need to make a change you edit the source and recompile. (its very quick)
