I tried to capture some video on a DVD I made years ago onto iMovie by transferring the signal through a Canon camcorder, and capturing it on iMovie via the camcorder. Somehow, it won't capture, saying the camera has no tape. Why is this happening? How can I capture videos?

It depends on whether that camcorder supports pass-through or not. From that message, it appears it perhaps doesn't. You might have to record onto a tape and then export it back out again.
