Hi, i am completely new to mac... i am really confused atm as i only have one user, but i have two folders under the users folder, or well, actually there is three but one of them is the shared account..

I have one account named brianlauridsen, and one named Brian Lauridsen, but i cant log in as other accounts when i log off?

My problem is that the mac sometimes installs data in the Brian Lauridsen folder, and brianlauridsen is the folder with the house (i suppose thats the default user or something?).. so when i have installed a new application i dont really know where its located, what has gone wrong, how do i fix it?! 😕

otherwise im quite happy with my new system

Thanks in advance
Brian

The lower-case account would be using your default "short name": is this your iDisk or something? Check in Finder Preferences which things you have selected to appear on your desktop. Apps should be in the Applications folder, which is shared by all users.

I have no iDisk, as far as i know..

I have my harddiscs, cds, dvds, ipods, and connected servers on my desktop.. apps are in the app folder i just figured hehe, its the desktop icons that goes into the wrong folder

If you open both User folders and Cmd+click on the icon at the top of the window, it'll tell you the path of the folder. That would help.

The little icon right?

Then a drop down list appears, and in the Brian Lauridsen folder i get:

Brian Lauridsen
Brugere (Users in Danish)
Macintosh HD
Brian Lauridsens Computer

in the brianlauridsen folder i get:

brianlauridsen

Macintosh HD

OK, go into System Preferences>Accounts. Are both names listed on the left? If so, you could just move anything in the lowercase account home folder into the other one and delete the lowercase user. Sounds to me like you've created two accounts by mistake.

Kaldenavn (i suppose thats nickname in English): brianlauridsen

(i found the above thing under the password tab hehe)

Thanks again hehe, its nice of you to help 🙂
