Do you use the laptop very much on the road?(The PC laptop) What you really need to decide is if its worth it going for something that is portable and a little more expensive, or something that performs better and stays in one spot.
If you aren't gaming then the only difference is one has a bigger screen than the other (basically). The only question is if you want to be able to take it anywhere (I was traveling in Europe for a month with my 12" iBook) or have a big screen to come home to.
But, don't forget, you can always buy a larger screen to go with the MacBook (in the future, if you decide you need it) and use it as a desktop, but you can never make the iMac portable (well, it is somewhat portable but you know what I mean).

True on both accounts. I started a thread about this very thing a couple weeks ago about my friend that lugs his iMac on his bike to school (not since it started snowing though).
I'd go with the Macbook. Time is going by slowly when you really want something and that's the situation I am in right now. But the Macbook I am about to purchase will be my first Mac too and I will be using it mainly for Word, Internet, Music, Photos, etc..nothing big like gaming, photoshop, etc.
