i think that the site could use a new look. i think it looks very "PC" as appose to mac. just a little blah..
do you think they would ever consider revising the look maybe give it a little aqua etc.

We've considered a new look.... but haven't got around to it yet.

Maybe you can hold a contest since there are quite a number of designers around here. Don't let that go to waste :p

The problem is finding something that pleases everyone and not making it look to busy.

Yeah, it's MacRumors. Simplicity is the key. :)

Agree MJ - I landed here one day and like the look - nice and clean - then I stuck around and liked the forum even better!

MacRumors look is timeless.

It's pretty much stayed the same for as long as I can remember.

I recently used an aqua theme for MR in FF, but got fed up with a few bugs in it, switched back to safari and the normal theme, and I've gotta say, I just love it. so clear. I suppose aqua-ish could be ok if done well, but only if done VERY, VERY well.....

There was a complete Aqua-pinstripes theme on the forums a few years back. It was decent (a lot better than the purply default theme), and I got pretty used to it. Quite shocking to change to the current look.

I wouldn't mind some changes, but it's all the same in the long run.

on the forums, i followed this post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=2611909), and it looks fantastic.

followed instructions in that thread to attempt to get it working in Safari, but it never worked for me. now i use ABP, the del.icio.us bookmark plugin and others i can't do without - so Firefox is the one.

but this theme is cool:

I'm content with the look. So what if it's a tad bland. It wouldn't be the same to me if it was changed.

Don't change it, it's functional, it's simple and it works.

Just like a Mac;)

why don't you offer different themes, maybe make a sticky post and use it so people can post themes for the mods to put in for vBulletin

Looks ok to me, but if you do some minor changes, that'd be fine too. Not really that big of a deal. Xlr8yourmac did some minor updates, asked how people liked it, was fine by us. MacCentral on the other hand pulled a TV Tome (bought out by CNet, masters of teh suk, now TV.com) and did a complete overhaul with no feedback, made you re-register from scratch, and then got all pissy if you complained. Needless to say, I don't go to either of those anymore than I have to.

Last time you guys did a change you talked with us, and believe me, it was appreciated.

Could we have like a contest? Obviously, you couldn't have people design directly into themes, but you could have people come up with a HTML-based theme, ZIP it into a file, post it, arn could post the HTML files on the site (similar to the advertisement gallery), set up a poll(s), and whoever wins gets their theme as the new MR theme, subject to administrative approval.

I like the simplicity of the way this forum looks. My only idea, and it's probably not a good one: perhaps make this site look like an updated (OSX) version of the Macintosh Garden (http://mac.the-underdogs.info/)?

I'd agree with that. Here it is a case of less is more.

Yeah i was looking at those and was wondering why they are there because they just don't look right.

They attract a lot of attention at least for me and i have never used those icions on any forum i have been to.

However other people may use it for reasons.

I'll look into it.

I really have to agree with you, eva01They do attract attention to me, and they honestly make using MacRumors.com a bit less "pleasurable" :D
