I have an old G4 700MHz with cd-rw only. Would it be easy to exchange the drive for a dvd-rw instead? As the prices are falling, and more and more stuff come on dvd's, I'm thinking I'll have to do this soon...

Yeah, I think the iMac G4 uses regular drives, like you'd use in any PowerMac. Here's a good place to start:

Hi from Ireland,
If it was me, I'd buy an external DVD-RW ...... cheap and easy solution.

The G4 iMac can use a regular DVD drive. I recommend the Pioneer 111D because its cheap and works with no issue. Here is a guide at xlr8yourmac.com about opening the iMac: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMac_g4/imacg4_takeapart.html

Thanks for all replies! I didn't expect much attention to this thread, but this is great! :)

The reason I want to go internal is instead of external is internal is cheaper. I mean, where do you find a $40 external superdrive?

Edit: the xlr8yourmac link was great. thanks, TDM21. :)
