Just wondering how many ipods you guys have and had?

ME:
4gb Mini (silver)
40gb Ipod Photo
Black 8gb Nano
80gb Ipod Video 5gen (currently have)
Ipod Shuffle 2gen (currently have)

I also have a PSP for use of internet only :)

:) :)
Also none of the ipods i had, had problems or were broken like some people say. Only thing was i used up all the charge cycles on the Mini. If you care for them, they will never get wrecked.

1 20gig color photo and its been a tank for me. Still kicking and I don't plan on getting a new one anytime soon. Of course if it broke I couldn't live without getting a new one immediately.

Seems like this would make a good poll. ;) One, and it's my only digital music player ever.... 3G iPod, 15GB.... I'm still more-or-less content with it... if I were to upgrade right now, I'm between the 8GB red or pink and the full-size as I think I might like the movie feature now and again.... :o

Former employee, and CompUSA used to sell a replacement plan for like $20, so you can bring your iPod in for any reason (battery, hard drive, etc.) and if they didn't have stock of your model, they'd give you an equivalent of what you paid.

It amazes me how many iPods I have gone through.

1st Gen. 5gig (Nov. of 2001)
2nd Gen. 10gig (April 2003)
-Gave the 1st Gen to my dad
1st Gen. Green Mini (July of 2004)
-Gave the second gen to my sister's husband
4 Gen. 40gig Photo (Oct 2005)
-sold the Mini to a friend
5 Gen. 60gig Video (October 2006)
- Sold 40gig photo on craigslist

I just got a 512mb shuffle for $30 from Apple for running and skiing so I don't ruin the video.

I feel like I have a good setup now, got lots of space in the video for my whole library and videos, and I have the shuffle for working out.

February 2005:
6GB mini blue (sold to my dad)

November 2005:
30GB 5G black

August 2006:
1GB shuffle white (1 month before the new shuffle :o)

October 2006:
8GB nano black

At the moment I want a 2G shuffle and a 3rd generation iPod. Does anyone know if the 10, 15 and 20GB 3Gs are the same thickness? I definetely want the thinnest one, but i would get a 15 or 20GB one if they are no thicker.

iPod Photo 30 GB. I love it. Sure, it's a little thicker than the iPod Videos now, and it can't play video :D, but on it does have a smaller footprint and.. Well I just like it. :)

I'm eyeing an 8GB Black Nano for Graduation in June. (Long time away, yes.)

I have 4, hopefully 5 on Christmas.

1. 15GB 3G iPod (still works but the battery is going and it's a bit flakey)
2. 512MB 1G shuffle (bought to supplant my ageing 3G after a Canadian ski season did a number on the battery/reliability)
3. 4GB 2G Blue mini (my Dad found it out walking one day, handed it in to the cops and nobody claimed it after 8 weeks so he got to keep it and gave it to me)
4. 1GB 1G Black nano (won it in a Graduation day survey at Uni)

Hopefully:

5. 30GB 5G White iPod (to fully replace my 3G)

I have 3 iPods. I got a 10GB 2nd generation iPod back in the day. It's still my primary iPod and I absolutely love it. I bought a 1GB iPod shuffle the very day Steve Jobs announced it for running. (Running the the 10GB 2nd generation just didn't work well!) Unfortunately, this has just become a large (physically) flash drive. This year I fell victim to the lure of the Nike+ kit and bought an iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED. Let me tell you, the Nike+ kit is extremely awesome and completely justifies the purchase of a new iPod.

So far I've owned:

3G 30GB iPod -- it was my first iPod and I upgraded due to a huge grouping of deal pixels.

4G 30GB iPod Photo -- I had this puppy for less then a year -- In the process of selling it.

5G 60GB iPod Video -- I really love the screen on it and the click wheel...whenever I tell somebody the clickwheel is better on the 5Gs they look like I'm an idiot.

1G 1GB iPod Shuffle -- sold to my gf

1G 4GB iPod Nano -- used primarly for running w/ the Nike + Running Kit

I don't plan on getting another iPod until my 5G stops working...unless it were in the form of an iPhone :o

2: iPod Shuffle 1GB 1st gen, and iPod Video 60GB.

My first MP3 player was a Rio 600 , but that died whereas both my iPods are in perfect working condition. I still use them both, particularly the shuffle which I find to be the most convenient. I also got to buy a Zune from Amazon for the sale price of $90, but I'm just selling it since it's only 30GB (way too little capacity for something that size).

-iPod 10GB, 1st generation. Sold on eBay to get...
-iPod Mini, blue, 1st generation. Also sold on eBay to get...
-iPod Shuffle 1GB, 1st generation. Still have it. These things are fantastic. Hot as the 2G Shuffle looks, I'm happy with this one.

As you see I've continually gone down in size, both physical and storage. I wouldn't want anything less than 1GB, but I'll continue to enjoy seeing them get smaller. Maybe soon you'll be able to clip it right to your ear.

Well, let's see (pulling on fingers)
-I had a green 4GB mini (loved it/sold it)
-I had a white 4GB 1st gen Nano (liked it, but battery life was too short)

-I have a white 60GB video-pod (good, thinking about selling it though, as I don't use it much)
-I bought a 2nd gen. shuffle, and really like it--gets me listening to music I have neglected, so small and cute
-My Main Man: black 8GB Nano (I like it, but wish it was green)

That makes 5.

After buying a stereo post-high school, I went for 20 years without buying any stereo/audio stuff--never owned a CD player. I figured they were a soon-to-be-outmoded technology. And I just wasn't into shelling out inflated CD prices.

Now that the personal computer and internet have matured and I have settled down in one place, I can't stop buying iPods! :D (I may have all I need now, though)

Well lets see...

1st - 3G 15GB
2nd - pink ipod mini 4 GB
3rd - 1G 2GB ipod nano
4th - returned 2GB for 4GB
5th - 4GB went haywire, so apple gave me a new one
6th - 1G 512mb ipod shuffle
7th - 5G 30GB ipod video
8th - returned 30GB video to get my money back for:
9th - 5.5G 80Gb ipod video
10th - 2G 1GB ipod shuffle

Thats about it! I still use my 3G as an external HD, my nano is collecting dust, i use my 80 and shuffle all the time.

2nd: 20GB photo
3rd: 512MB shuffle
4th: 4GB 1st Gen Black nano

1.) 4th Gen 20Gb
2.) 4th Gen 30 Gb iPod Photo
3.) 4th Gen 60Gb -> upgraded by apple to 5th gen iPod
4.) 5th Gen 30 Gb
5.) 2nd Gen 8 Gb nano

So that is 5 or possibly 6 depending on how you count. Rather a lot, but i did have all of these (at one point i even had 3). However number 1 stayed with me for 2 years, numbers 2,3,4 were all gotten by me and paid for by me but given away. nu,ber 5 is my baby now. Love it.

1G 5 gig. which broke and was replaced with a 20gig 3G. this one also broke and was repaired with parts from a 10gig 3G, which was fixed from parts off ebay. then I got a 5gig 1G again, just because it's so cool, and somewhere in there I had a 1gig nano and sold it.

So I guess 5 total, 3 currently.

Well, I just got my second iPod:

My girlfriend gave me a nice black 8GB nano. An excellent replacement for my (almost 3 year old) green iPod mini (who's battery recently has started to show signs of old age).

I've already named it Spψkelseskladden (http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sp%C3%B8kelseskladden).

I think I might give the mini away to a niece of mine (with instructions on how she can get the battery replaced ones it dies for good). I think that could be a nice New Years gift or whatever... :)

Me too. I have just the one (3rd Gen [?]- touch buttons above the wheel) B&W 10 GB iPod... I hear they have, like, these color screens or something nowadays. Man, what will they think of next?

I have accidentally dropped it a couple of times, but it seems to be hanging in there... (knock wood)

3rd (4th? can't keep track--anyway it's b/w) generation 20gig, whose clickwheel was rendered unusable when I went running with it on the bridge over Tokyo Bay and was caught in a flash downpour, with nowhere to take shelter and wait it out...

...prompting me to purchase a brand-new 2nd-gen nano. so all ends well.

My one and only - 3G 20GB iPod. A couple years old now yet still works perfectly and has lost hardly any of its original charge. No real need for me to upgrade as it currently stands. I guess I'll see what the deal is with the next-gen iPods whenever they are released, but I'm definitely in no rush to upgrade.

Let's see...

Bought the cheapest first gen right after they came out. 1
Lost it, insurance bought me a new gen 3. 2
Bought wife a mini for her birthday a while back. 3
Bought son a shuffle for Christmas last year. 4
Apple battery recall thingy, they sent me new one not long ago. 5
Bought son a gen 2 nano for Christmas this year. He'll see in

So, we've had 6, but only four at the same time.

Only 1 (a 4GB Black Nano) and unless someone can help me prevent songs from running into one another (it happens in both iTunes and iPod) it will be my last. I always wanted one for the simple interface and scroll wheel, which really is much easier to use than the others, and the tight integration with iTunes, which makes downloading to the device clean and simple. but why do songs run together? And before you ask, no, I don't use iTunes 7 gapless (I'm on iTunes 6), and crossfade is disabled.

EDIT: The old MusicMatch/Rio Nitrus combo that was my previous setup never had this problem, but OTOH I never used them much because the Nitrus was so clunky.

First was a first gen 512 MB Shuffle (I had been WANTING an iPod for long before that, but never was willing to plunk down the money,) then immediately decided it wasn't really what I wanted, and bought a friend's 30 GB 3G iPod off him. Later, I sold the Shuffle (to the same friend,) and bought a Nano. (First gen, 2 GB, White.)

The 3G iPod's battery is now barely functional (we mostly use it in one of the docking speaker systems, but my wife would like to use it at work,) so we might upgrade to a new 'full size' iPod soon. I think I'll wait for MacWorld to see if the long-rumored "true video" model comes out.

4G 40GB (an Anniversary gift from my wife - drive died exactly 1 year on... and no AppleCare)
Mini 4GB pink (my wife's Anniversary gift the same year - perfect match or what? :) Click wheel died just out of warranty, now used as a TechTool ProToGo volume)
Shuffle 1G 512MB (Audible freebie, later sold)
Nano 1G 2GB Refurbished (my wife's replacement, sold on buying thr 4G 20GB, see below)
another Shuffle 1G 512MB (Argos cheapie - £24! - sold when the 5 1/2 G 80GB came)
5 1/2G 80GB (from my wife/Santa this year)
4G 20GB (my wife's Nano replacement, John Lewis sale in January, immaculate and with all accessories including dock, £39!)

Well, I won a iPod mini, and then before opening it I took it back and paid the difference to upgrade to an iPod photo in spring of 05. Just last fall, I sold that and upgraded to a 60gb video (gotta love the price of refurbs + the sales on eBay.. I only paid about $30 to make the switch!).

One: a 20Gb 4G monochrome, I bought it in October 2004. I've never had it in a case, I've dropped it several times, and it still works flawlessly. I don't know what other people who break their iPods are doing wrong...

I've influenced the following people under my roof to buy iPods, though.
Dad, 20Gb 4G monochrome, bought Feb. 2005
Sister, 4Gb 1G white nano, bought Sep. 2005
Brother, 30Gb 5G video, bought Dec. 2005.

And my iPod has led to the shiny new Macbook which I am typing this post on.

I used to not give Apple much thought. I mean, I thought the G4 iMac looked cool and all, but I was a PC person because I'd never had much experence with Macs, and the experence I did have was with OS 9 at school.

However, in the summer of 2004, I began to get fed up with how ineffective Windows Media Player was at managing my ever-growing collection of CD's. I tried out iTunes because of the good things I had heard about it, and I was amazed. This software was, and still is, the best music software I have ever used. It just made listining to music such a joy. Well, I was starting to get tired of carrying around a lot of CD's and a CD player with me, so I began to look around for an mp3 player. The only one I gave any thought to was the iPod, because the others didn't work with iTunes. I started to save up for one, and in October 2004 I biked over to my local Apple store, and plunked down $300 of my hard earned cash for a 20 gig iPod.

After using my iPod for a while, I realized that if music could be this good, why couldn't computing? Well, after trying out OS X, it was clear to me that Macs were better than ever, and that my next computer would be a Mac. Eventually, I needed another computer, because my brother and sister were always using our shared Dell desktop. I got a Macbook for myself last December, and I couldn't be happier with it.

It's funny to think how one free download on my Dell led to me, 2 and a half years later, owning a Mac and an iPod.

None. :)

I do have a Sony SD music player my parents bought me either when, or just before the first gen iPods arrived. Although our family have always been fans of Apple, we didn't like the idea of a HD in a portable music player.

HUGE MISTAKE.

My SD player uses software that "encrypts" the data onto the player using some annoying special sony format. The software only runs on Windows, and more annoyingly, does not run on XP. So I basically now have something that I can't put music on, and so is completely useless to me.

Hope to get a 80GB iPod v. soon! I'm owed one for Christmas :)

BTW, if anyone wants said extremely small and extremely cool looking Sony SD player, I would love to sell it...

I have three which all get used regularly:

First was a 4th Generation 40GB iPod ('The Jukebox') bought in October 2005 - and so began my Apple Experience.

Second was a 1st Generation 512MB iPod Shuffle ('The Runner') bought in August 2006, which I use at the gym and when running.

Third is a 8GB 2nd Generation Nano ('The Traveller') which I bought in January this year and which currently lives in the pocket of my work-coat (you've gotta have some music when you're eating a sandwich!), and will eventually see the world through the bottom of a rucksack.

I've purchased 23 iPods but 6 of them were for others so a total of 17 for me. I still have 3 and my wife has one of the other ones...

1. December 2001 – My 1st!! – the Original White 5 Gig iPod
2. April 2002 – Sold my Original (I still regret selling it) and purchased the White 10 Gig iPod
3. August 2002 – Sold my 10 Gig and picked up the White 20 Gig
4. April 2003 – Upgraded my 20 Gig to the new White 20 Gig with solid state scroll wheel and four buttons
5. September 2003 – Upgraded from the 20 Gig to the White 40 Gig with solid-state scroll wheel and four buttons. This iPod still holds a special place in my heart as it represented the first time I was able to have all of my music on my iPod. At the time, I had about 32 Gigs of music.
6. February 2004 – Purchased a Green 4 Gig iPod Mini as a gift for my wife. Due to huge demand in the US, the mini was not available to be ordered in Canada yet. I purchased this iPod on E-Bay and had it shipped to a friends address in Boston and then had my friend ship it up to me.
7. April 2004 – Bought my 1st iPod Mini for myself. I ordered a Pink one online from the Apple Store. I got an E-Mail telling me that it would ship in 1-2 weeks (see below.)
8. March 2004 – I was in my local Best Buy and saw that they had a Pink Mini in stock. I bought it and rushed home to cancel my online order. Just my luck – Apple had shipped it early. I ended up selling the one that Apple shipped to me (still sealed) to a friend who was looking to buy one.
9. July 2004 – Upgraded to the white 40 Gig with Click Wheel
10. December 2004 – Upgraded to the White 60 Gig iPod Photo. This was my most expensive iPod purchase ever at $749 Canadian. I almost skipped this one but decided to treat myself after receiving a pretty sweet bonus that year.
11. January 2005 – Purchased the 512 Meg Shuffle (just because!!)
12. February 2005 – Upgraded my Mini to the new 6 Gig version
13. September 2005 – Upgraded from my mini to the new Nano (the 4 Gig version in White)
14. October 2005 – Upgraded to the White 60 Gig iPod with Video
15. April 2006 – Bought a Black 30 Gig iPod with Video as a gift for my wife
16. June 2006 – Bought a 1 Gig White Nano for my father-in-law as a Birthday gift
17. July 2006 – Bought a 1 Gig White Nano for myself. (I was convinced that new Nano would be announced in the June timeframe so I had recently sold my 4 Gig version. When Apple and Nike came out with the Nike+ system though, I had to pick up a small Nano just so I could use their new running system until the new line of Nanos arrived.)
18. September 2006 – Upgraded to the Black 80 Gig iPod Video
19. September 2006 – Upgraded to the new 2nd Generation Nano (a 4 Gig Pink one)
20. October, 2006 – I decided that the new Product Red Nano was much cooler than my Pink one so I upgraded to the 4 Gig Red Nano.
21. December 2006 – Bought a White 30 Gig iPod with Video as a Christmas gift for my parents
22. December 2006 – I purchased a 1 Gig 2nd Generation Shuffle for a local United Way Charity Silent Auction. (It sold for more than I paid for it!)
23. December 2006 – I decided to purchase the new 1 Gig 2nd Generation for myself too.

To re-reply:

First gen 512 MB shuffle (Sold to the friend I bought the next one from, after purchase of the nano; he gave it to his mom as a Christmas present.)
30 GB 3G (bought from the friend I sold my shuffle to; soon after I showed my wife how to use it, it became her iPod; it now has a dead battery, and is only used in a powered iPod speaker-dock.)
2 GB White first gen nano (Bought after my wife claimed the full-size iPod, because the shuffle alone wasn't cutting it for me. Unfortunately, she just discovered Nike+, so I fear this one will become hers soon, too.)

I guess it's time to buy another one for myself. Again. I need to stop showing these things to my wife!

Now I can't decide if I want a new nano, or if I'll wait for the iPhone. (I've been eyeing some Nokia smartphones, which are technically more advanced than the iPhone (3G, third party software support including GPS software,) but the iPhone is just so seductive. (I'm presently using an older Nokia smartphone that is dying, it gives an error every 2-3 times I turn it on, and won't work again until I leave the battery out for a day or two.)

1. 15gb ipod 3G (from dell.com when they have ipods that you could combine with 15% off and $35 off $400 discount)
{then i tried the dell dj for a bit}
2. 15gb ipod 3G (bought it used, so since it was already scratched up, i didn't have to worry about protecting it, since this was before invisibleshields came out)
3. 40gb ipod by hp 4G (from best buy)
4. 60gb ipod photo (from buy.com since the "new" 5gb ipod photo came out so i got the version with ALL the accessories at a cheap price)
5. 4gb ipod mini (green)
6. 60gb ipod 5G with video (from best buy)
7. 8gb black nano (from forum member)
8. 5gb original ipod (and i mean ORIGINAL, before they had pc-compatible versions, and when there was no mention of capacity on the back because they only made 5gb ipods) and it is currently for sale, since i'm trying to fund my tivo experience
9. 8gb red nano (also from forum member)

i'm thinking that there's another ipod between the 40gb hp one and the 60gb ipod photo, but that could be it.

A 40GB and a 30GB both of which had hard drive failures just over one year after purchase (14 and 15 months respectively).

Jobs & Co. are pretty audacious in what they charge for a (barely) glorified, unreliable hard drive. Hell, you can buy an entire PC for what these clowns are charging for their garbage.

Maybe Jobs & Co. ought to fire 85% of their store staff (they acutally employ some clown to tell me my hard drive died?) and cut the price of their junk by half.

My Motorola phones take magnitudes greater beatings and abuse than either of my iPods ever did, and the phones have kept working flawlessly for more nearly three years.

No more Apple-anything for me.

Three, unfortunately: a 4th gen color (gave to sister), a 4th gen mono (sold on eBay), and a 5th gen black (which still works). I don't plan to buy any more. If and when the battery goes on this one, I'll buy a kit and replace it myself.

20 Gb 4th Gen
80 Gb ipod classic
8 Gb 3rd gen ipod nano
16 Gb ipod touch

I got the first ipod from mp3players*****.com. The HDD died in two years and then I got a touch for my birthday. That crapped out in about a month, so I returned it and got a new one and sold that one on eBay. Then bought the classic and nano off ebay and I love those a lot better than the touch.

Geez, are you people ever tough on your iPods! My very first one, a 10GB 2G (with the buttons around the perimeter of the wheel) worked perfectly for five years until the battery finally died last month. A new battery has been ordered, and I fully expect she'll be back in action ASAP. And my second one, a 40GB 3G, is still going strong after almost four years (and one battery replacement.) My first shuffle has literally been through the washer & dryer and it works perfectly. And all of the other half-dozen I've bought over the years are still functioning too. Until reading this thread, I didn't think it was even possible to break an iPod. :apple:

I can't help but notice the quasi-philosophical taglines - allegedly quotes by Jobs - the Apple kids place after their posts. They seem to be deep thoughts - I suppose they are to a 20-something - but in fact, say nothing!

It's clear that Jobs & Co. have done their very best to persuade young people to buy Apple garbage, as anyone who actually has to use and rely on computers to get work done are older than 20-something.

Jobs & Co. are the RONCO of the 21st century ... " it slices, it dices, it'll work until the warranty expires!" Hell, even the Ginsu Knives had a lifetime warranty and they probably didn't cost any more to produce, market, distribute, and sell, than the almighty Jobs & Co.'s latest-crap-of-the-quarter.

I've had 19 iPods plus an iTunes phone and an iPhone.

Gave 4 of the iPods away, 1st and 2nd gen nanos. I miss the 2nd genners, I think they may be the niftiest so far. The solid state drive and the elegant shape! They look like an expensive chocolate sample in a foil wrap.

I have bought 16 iPods of various sorts for gifts. It's amazing how many of the recipients have independently said to me that iPod changed their lives. I feel that way too.

All my iPods still work. The 20Gb one from 2002 is on its second batt. The original U2 one started making clicking noises a couple years ago. I got a U2 video model just in case the clicks on the other were signs of impending hard drive death. But so far the older one's still hanging in there and gets a fair amount of use every week in the car and the kitchen. I love that black and red combination.

I even still like the sturdy candybar that is the original iTunes phone. I make a new playlist for it every couple months, and laugh at how angry so many of us were when we found out we could only put 100 songs on it. Sometimes I have trouble concentrating to pick out another 20 songs I might really want on it for a particular cycle now. Maybe we do just like complaining about stuff.

Well I gotta say two good things about that iTunes ROKR-E1 phone. The call quality has been outstanding. And, the battery cover still works perfectly after all this time, compared to a bunch of other cell phones I'd like to smash with a hammer for having such flimsy and unnecessarily complex battery cover implementations (Cn u spl duct tape).

Now I crave a purple shuffle but I can't justify it so I'm resisting.

I have had and still have only 2 iPod's:
-year 2003, iPod G3 with 40GB.
-year 2006, iPod nano G2 with 8GB.

Both are still working as they should. Only the battery of the G3 is dying. I currently only use it plugged in its dock and power connector and connected to a 2.1 sound system.

I also thought of buying a new iPod (touch maybe) but I will wait until my nano dies (won't happen to soon as it seems)

-iPod Mini 4GB 1G (got it in 2004 for christmas - couldn't use it because its screen got cracked)
-iPod 30GB 5G (got it for my bday in 2006 but was stolen a year later)
-iPod Nano 2GB Silver 2G (Was my mom's, but she outgrew it and got a 5G iPod, so she gave it to me to use until I got one of my own)
-iPod touch 16GB (got it for this christmas, still in use)

I've had... Four, I think.

First up was an original U2 iPod. Monochrome, it was a hand-me-down from my older brother after he got an iPod Photo. Inevitably, it got full of dust and died.

Second was a green first-gen mini, 4GB. Tough little thing, it broke after two years when it too got full of sand/dust.

Then I inherited my older-brothers iPod Photo. Still got it, actually. Use this as my main player. It holds all my music, roughly 25GB of it. (Most of this is long, long, long dance mixes; Up to an hour long.)

Then, a few months back, came my 3G Nano, 4GB. It was a present off my parents after losing a load of weight. (Dropped from 120Kg to 70Kg.)

And thats about it. I'm not eyeing up any more; I simply have no need for a new one.

To re-re-reply:

First gen 512 MB shuffle (Sold to the friend I bought the next one from, after purchase of the nano; he gave it to his mom as a Christmas present.)
30 GB 3G (bought from the friend I sold my shuffle to; soon after I showed my wife how to use it, it became her iPod. I have replaced the battery, but it still lives almost exclusively in a speaker-dock.)
2 GB White first gen nano (Bought after my wife claimed the full-size iPod, because the shuffle alone wasn't cutting it for me. Unfortunately, she discovered Nike+, so this one became hers, too.)
8 GB iPhone (Yes, I waited in line on day 1. This will likely be replaced with a 3G iPhone when it comes out, and this iPhone will be either passed down to my wife, or to my 13 year old stepson. (Gah, kids these days. He is the ONLY kid in his class without a cell phone.))
Motorola SLVR L7 (Bought for my wife when we switched to AT&T, and before the nano got passed to her. She uses it for listening to audiobooks at work.)
Third generation 1 GB shuffle, that my 3 year old daughter uses to listen to classical music. This was a freebie giveaway from some contest.

My stepson also has a 6 GB second-generation mini, and a 30 GB Video iPod, both of which were bought used with his own money.

If you count both of my stepson's, and both phones, then our house is up to 8 that have been owned, 7 currently in the house.
