Looks like an Apple sticker on something. That is just what the stickers that come with every mac look like. Just a guess.

I think it's a pro box, a pro app large enough to have a box with a pull out carton...I think my Final Cut 4 box looked like that once you took the sleeve off, but I don't have it anymore.

Macbook Pro box, because of it's thin profile.

I agree, but you'd think you'd be able to see something on the left side of it.
Here is the correct angle for the PowerBook box:

Could be lighting, but the box in the Mayer pic looks more glossy than the matte black of the MacBook boxes.

Could be an iPod of some sort, but the box in the picture seems a lot bigger than an iPod box would be.

im going to go with a powerbook. Definatly not an ipod and the macbook pro box i s way to thin, as wild cowboy pointed out

Agreed, and on the original picture the apple is lower.
And it's far too thin to ba a Powerbook box, right? And the pictuered computer is a MBP.
So what is it? it looks too big to be an iPod box also.

Yes, we agree that the computer is an MBP, but the box is too thin to be an MBP box. I strongly suspect that it is a PB box. Most of the pics I've found that show the depth of the PB box are for the 12" model, but saw a couple for the 15" as well. They do seem a bit thick compared to the one in the John Mayer pic, but that could just be an illusion from the angle of the pic. The other possibility is if the 17" PB box was slightly thinner, which could be possible since the larger computer would allow the accessories to be spread out more in the box...but I didn't see any pics clearly marked as a 17" PB box. Does anyone have one who can confirm?
Peace

If you look at the CD sleeve to the left you will notice the sleeve and the box are both about the same width.

Lok at the picture closely. It's glossy, but also has a crease in it. The boxes aren't glossy, are they?
Is it even a box? I know that sounds somewhat farfetched and unorthodox, but who knows?
My conclusion:
Too thick to be an iPod box,
The "Apple" is too low to be a MBP box,
Far too small to be a Mac Pro box,
And it's too thin to be a Powerbook box.
Regardless of angle to all of the above.

i dont think it's mac box... it's on the table, and has such a low apple logo... i was thinking 'bout ipod box, but the apple on the ipod box is shiny
it's definitely not mac pro, macbook, macbook pro, nor powermac... i mean
whats that white thing in front of it,
(is the object even on the table?)
what about the apple's ipod speaker, wifi or whatever its called...

It seems legit, but if you look at the picture, the "box" has a crease in it, as the folder does not. It can't be FCP, and like bearbo said, I also don't think that John Mayer would have any use for it for what he does.

Yes, but the box is white and the apple logo is light grey, like an iMac box.

It could be the "folder" inside the inner FCP box. I don't know if other pro apps follow the same model as the FCP4 box I had, but there was an outer sleeve and the plain box with the folder inside.
Probably not the full FCP Studio...anyone know what the inner packaging of Logic Pro 7 looks like?

That's a possibility, but the folder wouldn't have that gap that's just to the left of the edge we see in the pic. That gap matches perfectly with a box that opens like a PB box. (But of course there are inconsistencies that make its identification as a PB box suspect as well.)
Edit: Okay, a closer look convinces me that it's possible that the "gap" I'm seeing could be the inner folder pulled out of the outer box just a smidge. Now, do we have some software that consists of only a single folder inside a box?

I got to thinking, maybe it's a G5 powerbook box? You know I did hear some rumblings about MWSF...and John Mayer has been known to take part in the past...;)

Just look at the original picture and the look at the folders. In the original picture, the "box' has a crease a little in, while the folders have no crease whatsoever.
Explain it or vouch with me.

My FCP 4 box was exactly like that...but I'm assuming that it is not FCP 4, but something newer.

Yes, that's what I tried to explain a bit in the edit on my last post. I can see how maybe the part to the left of that crease is a thin outer sleeve, while the part to the right is the inner sleeve just slightly pulled out. We've seen photos of Apple software packaged similarly, but I've yet to see something that would look exactly like this.

It's the thick folder that is encased in a black box with is then is surrounded with a band of thick stock that has the outside packaging on it...I think my 2nd generation iPod and the iSight are packaged similarly.
Strangely...looking at the picture, there also appears to be the front end of a(nother) folder with white manuals just behind the box in question above the empty disc sleeve.

Thats not where the crease is.
And if it was, which it isn't, then where would that flappy thing be, hmm?
Also, the "box" is against the wall- there is no way that that is a FCP box, because the FCP box is very wide.

This is why I don't think it is the full studio as that looks too thick, looks more like two pieces of cardboard (an outer box and the folder) with the folder left hanging out a little.

It is if it's the other crease, on the right side, and you rotate the box 90-some degrees clockwise.
And if it was, which it isn't, then where would that flappy thing be, hmm?
The flappy thing gets folded into the box.

On a lighter note...that Mayer sure is a messy fella huh? His girl's body may be a wonderland, but that table is a mess!

IIRC a box of tutorials and manuals that came with FCP 5 (standalone) was roughly that wide.
