So, my mouse batteries went dead.
Replaced them.
Still didn't connect after the usual time of "swirling" mouse around.
turned computer Off
Turned back on
Mouse connected, but the only thing it would do was click. would not track movement.
tried various surfaces
closed and opened the optical light beam sensor thingy
took batteries out and put them back in
still nothing.
went to bluetooth, disconnected and reconnected.
nothing
deleted the mouse in bluetooth setup
set up mouse in bt from scratch
still didn't work.
reset computer this time
still no.
let it sit for a bit and started to write this
it moved... but only in one direction - to the left.
and only for a minute.
tried everything above - still couldn't get it to move.
clicking worked again - I know cause the bold and other functions in this editor hilighted themselves when I doubleclicked it.
still not working.
I notice the intensity of the beam is lower than normal I think.
batteries are new, battery level in system preferences is strong.
this is my first BT mouse for mac. it's always taken awhile to startup while changing batteries, but after a minute or two it would be fine.
I don't know what's happening here.
Can anybody please help?

oh yeah - one more thing that's pissing me off - even though for the time being I'm using a USB mouse, the first "tabbable" (new word of the day!) item is outlined in a bold black box. - you know, to show you where you can tab within an application. I want to get rid of this.
hopefully if I leave it overnight it'll work better, but this is really wierd.
