i recently bought the davinci code and i would like to make a backup copy, since my children seem to have more fun using the dvd discs as frisbees.

I would usually use osex to rip the file into one single vob. file but it refuses to open with the dvd is in the drive. Second option i used was mac the ripper but when i ripped the file into multiple vobs some segments were in english and others in an alternative language (spanish, french). So finally i used handbrake, but even that begins to hang in the ripping and converting process.

what should i do!

Teach your children to respect the property of other people, or just don't leave the disc where they can reach it.

When you use MTR, have you tried just extracting the main feature as a single VOB? For that matter, have you tried opening the disc in Finder and dragging the video_ts and audio_ts files to the desktop?

Otherwise, erm, my guess would be it's copy protected... ;)

In Handbrake

What Settings are you using to rip and does it usually hang at the same percentage?

Easiest thing I've found yet for making back-ups. I too have kids...
