I am going to upgrade my .Mac account to a family pack. It is an $80 upgrade. Can I downgrade it to a standard .Mac account like the one I already have at a later point of time?

When you go to renew, I don't see why not. But you can't just change your mind in the middle of your year and expect a refund.
