I knew early 2007 was BS

Tuesday 19-Dec-2006 11:52 AM Nintendo holds its big guns back for Christmas, CVG has learnt

Reliable sources close to Nintendo have told CVG that Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii, and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on DS will not see light of day until Christmas 2007.

CVG called Nintendo about the delays, and was told us: "We never confirmed a date for Super Mario Galaxy, but I can confirm that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Phantom Hourglass will all release in 2007. We can't confirm an exact release date for any of these titles at this time."

This is disappointing news for Nintendo fans, but it's not all bad. The Q1 2007 release lists for the DS (see it here) and Wii (here) boast some great titles.

We just hope that Nintendo can get enough titles out to keep Wii Remotes and touch screens busy over the typically quiet summer period.

So here's the official European release schedule

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Nintendo) - 12 Jan
Excite Truck (Nintendo) - 16 Feb
Kororinpa (Hudson) - 23 Feb
Baja Racing (Conspiracy) - Feb
Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action (Disney / Buena Vista Games) - Feb
Wing Island (Hudson) - 23 March
BIONICLE Heroes (Eidos) - 23 March
SSXTM Blur (EA) - March
Mario Party 8 (Nintendo) - March
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR (EA) - March
Bust a Move Wii (505Games) - March
Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (Namco Bandai Games) - March
Disney's Meet the Robinsons (Disney / Buena Vista Games) - March
Sonic and the Secret Rings (SEGA) - March
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Ubisoft) - March
Heatseaker (Codemasters) - Q1
Metal Slug Anthology (Ignition) - Q1
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (Midway Games) - Q1
Rampage Total Destruction (Midway Games) - Q1
The Ant Bully (Movie License) - (Midway Games) - Q1
The Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy (Midway Games) - Q1
Impossible Mission (System 3) - Q1
Leaderboard Golf (System 3) - Q1
Puzzle Balls (System 3) - Q1
Tennis Masters (System 3) - Q1 2007
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII (Ubisoft) - Q1

So assuming Nintendo doesn't decide to delay anything else then this is the list of Q1 titles.

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Nintendo) - 12 Jan
Excite Truck (Nintendo) - 16 Feb
Wing Island (Hudson) - 23 March
SSXTM Blur (EA) - March
Mario Party 8 (Nintendo) - March
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR (EA) - March
Bust a Move Wii (505Games) - March
Sonic and the Secret Rings (SEGA) - March
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (Midway Games) - Q1
Impossible Mission (System 3) - Q1
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII (Ubisoft) - Q1

So in typical Nintendo fashion, there next to nothing Killer AAA for the next good few months :(
If I'm lucky I can pick up maybe 1 good (not great) title per month.

Wario - Jan
Excite Truck - Feb
WingIsland (hoping it's like pilotwings) - March

Other than that the remaining titles all smell like the back of a cows arse.

Thanks for posting the list of upcoming titles. I have to agree with the comment about bovine butt stench.

There's no way MP3 has pushed all the back to end of 2007, I don't buy that.

And Mario for Christmas 07? I think the phrase "No ****, Sherlock" springs to mind.

Wario Ware is definitely a killer AAA game in my mind, all of them have been so far and I can't wait for it

Well yeah its a very good game but AAA ? But as I said other than that and the other two that seem alright it's not exactly a riveting line up.

Well, it is annoying given that their pre-launch advertising for the Wii had a cute Japanese girl playing the game with her boifurendo.

I concur. Nintendo does this all the time and in my opinion it's ridiculous and unacceptable.

... and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on DS will not see light of day until Christmas 2007.

This is the most disappointing for me. I don't mind waiting on Mario or Metroid, but I have been really excited for Phantom Hourglass. :(

Oh well, I guess it's always better to delay the launch to make sure the game is perfect rather than rushing it out the door.

i guess holding off for a while on a Wii was a good idea on my part then.

Metriod Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy are likely to be the two most wanted games by moi, so i see no rush to get one now...

If anything, it's a great system to play with friends, so I hope you can come by one. I had to be forced into playing Zelda years ago. It ended up being a good thing. :o

Have you played one? It's so different than any other console, even Wii Sports is a must have for mii. :)

True. But looking at that schedule only Wario fills that gap. That's what dissapoints me.

No titles like Brain Age, No decent puzzlers that really use the wii remote, (hopefully wii mercury arrives before summer) nothing that is going to captivate non gamer people looking for somthing after Wii Sports.

Waiting 4-6 months for the next game to fill the void, isnt going to sell systems or impress - they should have learned that from the cube.

People / Audiences are fickle. There release schedule should have at least 1 game per month to appeal to gamers/non gamers alike if they really want the wii to live upto and realise it's potential.

So one site with "reliable sources" says that the games have been delayed, and Nintendo's official word is "2007"?

I think you're jumping the gun a little here.

Nintendo's track record speaks volumes and adds weight to the rumor.

true, but I don't think Nintendo is stupid enough to hold ALL that back until Christmas.

My guess:

Phantom Hourglass: March/April

Mario Galaxy: Late Summer

Metroid Prime 3: November

Edit: After reading only, there is an interview with Reggie from October in which Reggie states MP:3 was going to be Early 2007, and then Mario later in the year. So swap my predictions. MP:3 is essentially finished...they just delayed it to space out the titles some..

Sounds like how the DS started out. oh wait!

Still a shame though. But with VC pumping out the classics then I'll be happy.

If big first party Wii titles like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy take longer to arrive than expected, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime could well be left looking a bit silly, after a transcript of an October interview emerged where he promised their swift release in 2007.

Speaking to Newsweek's N'Gai Croal, Fils-Aime offered the two Nintendo titles - along with Zelda: Twilight Princess - as proof that Nintendo Wii would not be afflicted by the same kinds of "drought" that caused problems for GameCube. Citing Metroid as coming out "early in 2007", he said Mario Galaxy would also be "strategically" timed "to make sure that we continue driving momentum through 2007."

Further asked if he'd repeat the old-days George Bush's infamous "read my lips" pledge to deliver games at a steady pace, Fils-Aime added, "I thought I just did."

Speaking to MTV News last month, the charismatic Nintendo of America president said that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption would be the next big first party title after WarioWare: Smooth Moves (January) and Mario Party 8 (March), while Mario Galaxy would arrive sometime between March and Christmas 2007.

So essentially If MP3 arrived Nov & Mario Dec it would match those statements and those over on CVG.

Who knows for sure ? But I still think you better get used to waiting otherwise you may end up dissapointed.

It all seems a bit cynical to me. Ninty knew fully well that these games would not be ready in 'early 2007' (perhaps not even mid 2007). Instead they would perputate the myth that they would be released soonish after launch in order to do everything they could to protect the positive hype around the Wii launch.

It really stinks. Just goes to show that it's not only Sony and Microsoft that treat their customers like imbeciles sometimes.
