I would like to know whether it is possible to view Powerpoint slideshows on a Mac that is not equipped with Powerpoint. Can Viewer be used for that? (I do not have access to my Mac right now, so I can't test this)

Note that the only difference between a PPS and PPT is the filename, so if you just rename them to PPT first you can use whatever you use for PPTs. OpenOffice? Keynote?

FWIW I find that many of the PPSes that get forwarded to me don't work well even with PPT:Mac installed.

I am thinking of buying my mom a Mac.

She is receiving a lot of slideshows from her friends and before I make her switch from Windows to the Mac, I want to ensure that she will be able to continue to view these pps files.

She has no use for Office:Mac, so I am looking for a free alternative.

Can NeoOffice (http://www.neooffice.org/) view them?

EDIT : According to the File>>Open panel, Yes it can.
