As far as i know there is a root account in OS X .2, yes? If so, how do I set the password and use it?
I've tried doing su in console but it tells me the password is incorrect, so how do I set it as it is a fresh install and the only password which has been set is my own.
Thanks!

open the netinfo manager in your utilities folder of the applications
then check out the SECURITY menu...authenticate, then enable the root password from that menu also

Personnally I deactivate Autologin in the user's pane. That way you can use the Gui to go into Root by logging out of your normal account and back in through root.
There's only one piece of advice I offer those wishing to use their root account, and you probably know it. But in good conscious:

The other advice I would suggest is making sure you are using root user (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106290&SaveKCWindowURL=http%3A%2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePage&searchMode=Assisted&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com&showButton=false&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false&sessionID=anonymous%7C169758358) correctly.
Using this method does not require the console.
