I'm currently living in Australia, but have just accepted a job in the USA starting in a few months. I have an original Xbox with a bunch of games, and am likely to buy a 360 once I've settled in over there (and a Wii too!). I've just realised though that as well as having to deal with which games have 360 backwards compatibility, that there is likely to be PAL/NTSC issues, and possibly region locking issues too.

Is there any chance I can run my games on a US 360, or is it a lost cause? I guess I could bring the original Xbox itself, but it's fairly big/heavy.

Pal Xbox games on NTSC 360, no.

360 games - a lot of them are region free so it wont matter where you are, even M$ recent releases are all region free.

Bummer. Oh well, thanks for the reply. I'll have to look into selling them then.

You'd think that the PAL/NTSC incompatibility problems would have been history by now, considering that the Xbox is so powerful and computer hardware has been able to output both for a long time now.

It's not pal/ntsc it's DVD region lock Region 2, Region 1 etc.

All Xbox (not 360) games are region coded

Xbox360 games - most of them are region free
So yes they are for the most part history now.

However someone needs to tell Nintendo that still has region locks for wii.
