I have a 17" MBP with boot camp installed. I just purchases a MB. Can I use my windows XP pro on both computers at the same time?

Microsoft will say you can't (as it will most likely be a violation of the license).

so legally I need to purchase a copy of windows for each computer I own?

Each computer you plan on installing it on yes. Also if you wish to install it in Parallels and in Boot Camp you are supposed to have two copies also. Unless you're using parallels beta in which you are accessing the Boot Camp copy.

It's the same for OS X, except the family pack which costs a bit more but you get to install it on 5 machines.
