I tried to browse the forums earlier today (on my PC) and it was a real pain in the ass to get just about anywhere without it locking up, so I tried it on my iBook (Camino/Safari) and it did the same.

I gave up and went away for a few hours and tried it again, but it was still wierdness, I can finally access them using Camino but its slow as hell and I occasionally have to refresh a ouple times in order to get to the thread I want, what's up with all this?

well there is an update taking place with the server for the site...not sure if it's been finished or not...

so that could be part of it...

Yeah, I noticed a slow-down too. I just figured that there was more traffic than normal.

Since the site has been having load times, arn has tried several things, some of which are in the Site News section, as well as a few other attempts, which I cannot discuss outside of *certain* forums.

(Coincidentally I got a "server busy" message when trying to view this thread.)

I'm in the same boat. With dial-up, I can open about one page of discussion in about a minute.

As for the loads, I think it's time for a major forum overhaul to remove the overhauls. I'm sure the above posters of this thread, as well as myself, are not the only ones experiencing difficulty with the boards. These boards have had over 1000 people on it at once and it held up. Why does it not hold up with only a few hundred?

I'm afraid those "private forms" you speak of are special forms, which I never use on the boards. But judging from your comment about "rats!" I can tell you're jealous. :)

So perhaps you could elaborate on what you meant to say.

Is the side bar issue associated with the server or different versions of the Safari browser? I ask because the front page didn't load correctly for some people using Safari.

Traffic's up today - not sure why - causing the slowdowns, I believe.

A second dedicated server is coming online this week... until then, just bear with it. Peak load times appear around 11am-1pm.... so it's just going to be slow during those times for now.

amagine what macbunidle is getting, they were /. 'ed
400,000 + people hitting your site...

Yes Cobra, I know I can't go into the special forums, hence private, such as (well obviously) the mod's forum, the contributor forum and the private submissions I guess is even greater...

Yes I am jealous because I don't expect to get mod powers, maybe when the 2003 mugs I'll get one, but still.

At the risk of going off topic in a Site News thread, even us demi-gods don't get to see what goes on in the Mod thread... my guess is drinking and porn, but that's just knowing the mods :D

but if you contribute, you'll get to see all the other ones... i don't think i'm even allowed to hint at what you're missing ;)

Server glitches were due to moving part of the site to a new server.

Over the next few days, the DNS changes will take place and MacRumors (front page) will be residing on a new server. Let me know if there are any major glitches/problems.

What's with the MySQL errors on the main page (http://www.macrumors.com) and the Forums index page (http://forums.macrumors.com)? I just noticed it. The errors are there for you guys to see, so I won't bother reposting screenshots or anything.
