New iSight.
New displays with built-in IR receiver.
MacMini C2D.

The thing I don't understand is if Apple releases this iPod Mobile, will this mean that the vanilla iPod is dead. I mean if you can buy an iPod that is a phone too, then why buy just an iPod .

In order of probability, at least in my mind:
- More Leopard previews, possibly with release date.
- Mac Mini updated to Core 2 Duo, or a price drop. Hopefully both.
- iWork and iLife '07 shipping, iWork with some sort of spreadsheet program (if there is one, is it definitely called Numbers?)
- More iTV info, possibly a name, but I don't think shipping until later, March maybe?
- 12" MacBook Pro released.
- New displays, probably just a spec update, hopefully with a 19" or 17" option.
- New iSights, hopefully, that look better than the first version.
- iPod with phone capabilities released. Hopefully unlocked.

Yes. But the main reason that you don't use it is because it doesn't integrate well with iTunes and it is cumbersome to get music on the thing and play it easily. If my phone can act as easy as an iPod (both on HW and SW levels) and has enough capacity, I don't see one reason why I would want to carry an iPod around.

Let's see...all the Macs are up to date in my opinion, except for the Mini, which could see a Core Two Duo update.
iTV is a given, as Jobs has already foretold its coming.
I believe Apple when they say that Leopard is due in Spring. So at MW, I expect we will hear updates on Leopard's development and how much developers love it, and there will likely be some jabs at Microsoft, and a showing of the David Pogue video which shows how Vista copied OS X elements.
Jobs will talk about how everyone loves the Get a Mac ads and will show a new one.
He'll talk about the success of the iPod line, point out that Gates took his advice in making a closed ecosystem with Zune, and possibly re-emphasize the increased sexiness of sharing an earbud versus beaming a song. He'll mention that the Shuffle has exceeded their wildest expectations, Nike Plus iPod is a critical and commercial success, and that Disney is thrilled with posting movies on iTunes.
Apple will introduce iLife and iWork 07, and iWork will include a spreadsheet App.
That's about all I'm expecting right now......

Dec 27, 2006, 02:24 AM
As it has been made quite clear within this thread, Jobs has mentioned the iminent release of the Itv. This IMHO is a big reason to expect a 6g ipod. I dunno if it will be full screen or touch screen, but I think Itv means a lot more than just a new product.
Itv being introduced causes a forced domino affect of things to be introduced at macworld.
1st. If Jobs is introducing an Itv, he must have more movie viewing contractual agreements, otherwise the Itv would serve little purpose. He made it quite clear using repeated showings of movies and shows using the Itv at the september event. If there is an Itv, Jobs must have more movie studios.
Plus: It would make perfect sense that more movie studios hop on to Itunes now, because previous rumors indicated they didn't want to affect the dvd buying holiday season. Thus, rumors indicated they would join after Christmas.
2nd. One delay on the Ipod Video 6g was the fact that Jobs was waiting for more people to hop on the itunes movies store. He couldn't unveil it in September, because only disney hopped on. Thus, he delayed consumers with some minor screen and hard drive upgrades. This is still a 5g ipod. In the current market, these Ipods are getting technologically behind. Apple is due for a new ipod. Jobs just bought some time.
3rd. I think the two main presentations by jobs will involve the music and movies with itv and ipod. The other topic will be Leopard.
THERE WILL BE NO IPHONE UNTIL AT LEAST APRIL!!!
Other possibilities include- one of the following
mac mini C2D update
display upgrade
hifi upgrade or pricedrop

This may be somewhat stretching it, but yes, I expect a small form factor MBP, something slightly smaller than the MB to plug up the hole left by the 12" PB... that space is now an orphan in the Mac product lineup... seems there is quite a bit of demand for something like that... though I don't see anything smaller than the 12" formfactor.
No new iPods this time around... if they had one ready, then they'd just have released it for X-mas - why lose the biggest selling season if you got the goods? So, it'll prolly be April before we see new iPods.
But Jobs will have to come out with "one more thing" - otherwise, really, what is he going to talk about that'll surprise the audience? Leopard updates are expected, iPhone, iTV etc. all expected. Therefore there's gotta be something new Jobs can announce, otherwise this will be a yawner.
Now, my wish - which I know will not happen - is for a mid-power headless mac - more than a mini, less than a Mac Pro... I'd buy it!

I agree to some extent however. Prior to Christmas Jobs would only have Disney as a movie seller on itunes. Many companys made it clear they would send their movies to itunes after Christmas. This sets up the ITV and updated Ipod for Macworld.
PS. Remember the Ipod Shuffle and I also believe Ipod Mini were both introduced at seperate macworlds. 2004 and 2005 maybe. Two wonderful products were introduced right after the christmas rush.
We may not see an ipod, but its surely a possibility.

1. No release/date announcement of Leopard. Just a big preview.
Release date will come 2 weeks before shipping which I think will happen in late March/early April.
2. Usual iLife updates, no price rise.
3. Usual iWork updates + spreadsheet app. No price rise, explosion of "Office:mac is doomed" rumours.
4. Lots of stuff about success of iTunes and iTunes Store both in the US and abroad. Possible addition of movie studios to US movie offerings, possible expansion to EU stores with movies. No international TV shows.
5. Small iPod-related hardware releases, point upgrade of iPod offering new features inc. output of UI to TV screen.
6. Mac Pro given upgrade option to Xeon 5353 (I think? The $609 2GHz one) and Mac mini upgraded to Core 2 Duo. All Macs now 64bit.
7. Upgraded displays, HDCP-compliant, various upgraded components.
8. Some sort of new iPod - I reckon it'll be like the iPod photo in that it will be a higher-priced high-end version, don't know how it'll work.
9. No phone.
10. I'll say it again, we won't see Leopard released nor will we have a release date announced.

Yeah, I think iPods will be bigger. I think the Zune and Apples big push to movies and TV, means the vPod will be big.
I also think the Phone is looking good...

Well, all Apple product lines are consistent and Apple only needs to upgrade Mac Mini. Mac Mini will receive Core 2 Duo and all the models with SuperDrive.
All Apple products will receive pre-N Wireless. MacBooks will get hard drives with flash.
Possibly it will be showed a MacBook Tablet, with a 12 inches screen, and a keyboard like the tablets of Windows world.
Everyone is starting with the points (like microsoft and nintendo) so i think that Apple will rename the gift cards of itunes to iPod Points or something like this.
And talking in iPod, probably we will see an iPod Video with 16 GB of NAND Flash. A new iPod Video will get out, and it will substitute the 80 GB iPod. The 30 GB will receive minor updates, but will not be replaced.
iTunes will be updated to work with the new iPod that will connect to iTunes via wireless, bluetooth or USB Cable. The updated iTunes will receive an iTV menu like the iPod menu in devices in iTunes 7. Movies and Music Videos will go to all European stores.
iTV will be introduced, with new features like iPod connection and PVR.
iPhone (if it exists) will be showed as iTV was in Showtime. They will call to the prototype "Apple Phone", but as a internal codename. Shipped in Q3 2007.
The Cinema Displays will be updated, with a new design, built-in iSights and another goodies. They will see a price reduction to be more competitive.
iLife will receive improvements like FTP upload in iWeb and upload to Google Video in iMovie.
iWork will receive a spreadsheet app called Lasso and Pages will be more word like.
Mac OS X Leopard will be introduced, and all features will be revealed. It will shipped in Late March.
And the one more thing will be an Home Server called xMac. It will be like a Mac Mini or the Cube, will be for the den, not for the living room, iTV will search for him in first place, it will be more powerfull that Mac Mini, but less that Mac Pro, with prices like the ones of iMac.
Steve jobs will bring to us a Even one more thing, where he will show that Apple is working in a new Game Console that will be based on Software for iTV and with wireless remotes.
This is my prediction to MacWorld.

Typically, no -- not unless it was ordered on or after announcement day, although you may try bitching...erm... complaining. I bought my iBook in December of 03 (receiving it, I think, either the day before or the day after Christmas), and I did not get iLife 04 in January. But I didn't try complaining either. :o

Here's what I'd like to see (whether it'll happen, we'll have to see):
-Core 2 Duo Mac Mini
-Dual proc, quad core (so 8 cores total) Mac Pro
-Displays w/ built-in iSight & IR port for remote/Front Row
-External iSight
-iWork & iLife '07
-iTV
-Mobile phone
-Updated Airport base stations/express
-True Video iPod
I'll definitely buy iLife & the phone. I'd like to buy a new display in the biggest size, but my salary at work is cr@* (but that's what you get for working 30 hrs/week @ an elementary school).

Large displays for the living room (something like 42 and 50 inch). Why else have developed Front Row and iTv along with having movies in the iTune store and all the other video media. It will happen, I hope this keynote.

Let's see...all the Macs are up to date in my opinion, except for the Mini, which could see a Core Two Duo update
I'd actually like to see a cheaper Mini. As cheap as Apple can make them and still perform well. We don't need the latest greatest Intel chips, do we? (edit: if you expand the HD of a Mini to be the same as the cheapest iMac... they're the same price! And the mini has no mouse, keyboard, or monitor!!!!)
That said.. some people want something more powerful than a Mini but less than a MacPro. They're even saying an iMac without a screen. Isn't a Mini similarly configured to an iMac without a screen, already? (edit: at the low end it is, but there's not much expandability)
iTV is a given, as Jobs has already foretold its coming. We'll certainly learn more. Jobs didn't say it'd be release yet, but we can hope.

I'm expecting a full demo of Leopard at this stage. No secrets. I'm hoping they'll have new finder.
ps.
In the "way out there", but possible "One more thing"... I have my standard hope for Cocoa for Windows. Perhaps Apple can sell Windows as a dual-boot option on Macs, still able to run OSX applications.

The iMac has a dedicated graphics card, which is one major gripe people have with the Mini. When people say they want a headless iMac, keep in mind that started before the Mini was introduced. At the time the iMac was the cheapest desktop Mac. During the G3 iMac's lifetime, the issue was the iMac's screen was built-in, and many people wanted screens larger than 15". Then Apple introduced the desklamp iMac, and people complained even more because now they were having to pay for a flat panel (which were still pretty expensive then).
If there is still an issue today it is that there is an unsatisfied market for a desktop mac that is expandable but still small. The MacPro is huge. One or two PCI slots and an upgradeable graphics card is all many people want.

Isn't it time for new form factors?
It was a good idea to let let the PPC --> Intel transition look as smooth as possible, so keep the same form factor for the initial Intel releases of the products.
So now we are "used" to Intel Macs, won't Steve love to do a "taa-daa!!" on stage again, i.e. present another design-award winning new Mac?
Maybe a new Mac mini (Core Duo 2)?
Maybe a new Mac Book Pro?
Maybe a new iMac?
Well, that's what I am hoping for anyway.....
What I expect is this:
- 20 minutes "review" of the PPC --> Intel transition (Adobe CS3 showoff included)
- 45 minutes of Leopard preview (might become a bit boring as many features shown at the WWDC will probably be repeated...)
- iWork '07 (no iLife '07 yet...)
- Larger screen iPod video
I don't expect much more.
So, Steve... please surprise me!

I expect to be dissapointed, but hopefully it will come out at macworld. everything is in place for an intro, however i think jobs is a little timid about it. That is why he will likely introduce it to replace the 80gig ipod or to just top out the ipod line. He is likely worried that the current ipods may still have time left to shine. i dunno.
Anybody else have any feelings on new ipods etc.?

If there is still an issue today it is that there is an unsatisfied market for a desktop mac that is expandable but still small. The MacPro is huge. One or two PCI slots and an upgradeable graphics card is all many people want.
I am currently in the market for just such a machine and won't buy anything until after MWSF. I'm prepared to buy the inevitable Core 2 Duo Mac Mini, but I wonder what the chances are that Steve will suprise us with a mid-level headless desktop. I know that most everyone thinks that this is unlikely, presumably because it would cut into iMac sales and because of the Cube debacle. I place the chances of such a rollout at MWSF at 1 in 3. What do you think?

Good corporate move really.
They can't get into trouble for breaking the law with share issues, if they MAKE the law :)
Long live the first corporate takeover of a country. Would that make Apple a democracy?

An extreme long shot would be when iPods gain much higher capacity (Nano with at least 16GB, video type at least 100GB) would be a 'game system.' You would download a game from the iTunes Store, pop it on your iPod, and play a mobile version (weaker graphics) on the go, and drop your iPod in a dock and play a full version (good graphics), the dock taking over the work, and you'd have wireless controllers.

More or less impossible. MBPs were just updated to C2D - wait until April, and I'll be there waving my credit card like a lunatic with the rest of y'all :D

I'd really like access to TV/Movie episodes in iTunes for those of us not in the US.
C'mon, Steve. After this christmas, you have RIAA, MPAA and the rest of them over a barrel. Open it up for the rest of us.
I know they said 'probably in 2007', but I'd really like something more definite at MacWorld.
Hardware-wise.... I just want a replacement for my Palm and Nokia that is *integrated* with OS X, without 3rd-party addons.
Anything else is just dessert.

Interesting... my thoughts are changing a little, but basically I'm predicting
* Simple iPhone (nothing snazzy/special), for release shortly
* iTV ready to go in 1 month. Runs new small OSX.
(* New naming scheme for iPhone and iTV)
* Updated MacMini (ready for an update, and may share some features of iTV.
* iLife/iWork etc (inc spreadsheet). It always happens right?
* Remote control of a Mac's background user from iTV or other Macs. (not sure why I believe this).
Demo of upcoming products
* iPhone with wifi etc in final stages, being checked now by communication authorities (hence they might as well demo it). Same new small OSX as iTV.
* Leopard demo - showing the secrets, including a new finder interface using CoreImage.
I think they've got a full screen iPod but it's not quite there yet. I wonder how long it'll take.

... about the keynote, which is rather worrying and probably says a lot about the amount of red bull and vodka I had to drink last night. However, maybe it's my imagination that failed me because I didn't read about any exciting new features in Leopard, the iTV wasn't ready yet and the rumours about a mid-end headless mac and improved iMac turned out to be pure fabrication.
Remember being decidely disappointed when I kept hitting refresh and Steve had finished without even doing a 'One more thing...'
Still, a pessimist is never disappointed - unless of course he owns apple stock and the keynote were to pan out as described.

They have only just been updated
Anyhoo... after watching the 'Showtime' keynote again I have a sneaky feeling we will be seeing iTV - SJ said Q1 of 07 and they had a working model already. This will obviously lead to Apple going into the TV market in the coming months too (typical after I have just bought a new TV).
I dont think we will see a fone in January. If you think about it there really is no rush to enter the market and why enter it with a rushed and/or service limited product? Get it right the first time!
iPod AV (fullscreen)...? Hmmm...? From the patent drawings it looks like they have some interesting stuff for this thing hence the long wait. Movies are now availabe on the ITS and are very likely going to go international very soon. I think we may finally be seeing this bad boy in January.
Revised processors all round I think. Including an 8 core option of some sort for the MP. No major design upgrades.
No Leopard release but a release date and some more info about it.
Obligatory piss take of Vista (and now Zune).
Thats how I see it anyway. People build these things up way too much and expect 24 core Macminis with built in phone capabilities alongside 50" fullscreen iPods  usually they go home dissappointed because Apple are realistic. Just like me :D

The point of the iMac has always been that it is an off the shelf package that has all that you need to start computing out of the box. Isn't the fact that in order to make use of Leopard's Time Machine you need to add clutter to your desk (an external drive) going against this philosophy? So in order to solve this I predict that Apple will release an iMac with two HDDs and that following on from this there will be the MacBook and MBP dual HDD models.

Steve Jobs will announce that Apple is going to invade Poland.
...this offers insight into the usual pre-Macworld posting frenzy. Most posters have ridiculously long lists that will be unfulfilled. The last Macworlds have been, for me, relatively plodding affairs (although still necessary viewing). I do not expect anything that exciting this year. In fact the iTV (as an earlier poster wrote) will be the 'one more thing' item. It will be the object that needs the hype and little to compete with. Yes the iPhone will come but it is too early and I feel Apple are way behind in the technical and distribution battle - they will not release it until it is going to blow away the rest.
I get the feeling that marketing departments have a greater say in the release of Apple stuff more and more, which kind of makes sense really(!) but marketing people are so boring.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but I can't see that iTV will be the One More Thing (OMT?). OMT is normally reserved for something you didn't see coming... and we've all seen iTV coming for months now.
Maybe Steve will decide it's time to shelve the "OMT" section? It might be getting a little old.
But I still have faith that Apple will broadside us all with some new product. This year's "predictions" have been boringly pessimistic, so there's plenty of scope ;)

Oh and OMT: Apple have bought Dell and Microsoft. Don't ask where we got the money, it just came to us.

Maybe a new keyboard, at the moment, we have "Keyboard" perhaps we will get a "Mighty Keyboard"?

I doubt the keyboard will get anything - doubt it.
I'm guessing mostly surrounding Leopard, iTV™ stuff, maybe an update for a product.
Mac mini -> Core 2 Duo?
Displays most likely.
iSight...?

While it's not a show-stopper, a new keyboard some time would be cool.
I don't think they'll make one with more keys, but a keyboard that didn't fill up with c!&p so quickly, or that you could at least clean easily would be great.
History suggests that any keyboard update would accompany a major design revision to their machines. God knows when that would be... I think the current designs (with the exception of the MBP) are the strongest Apple have ever had.

Here's my three-day "wild guess" in regards to iPod at MacWorld SF:
1) We'll see a new nano with 16 GB of flash memory. Apple drops the 2 GB model, and the 4 GB model drops to US$175 and 8 GB model drops to US$225 respectively.
2) The regular 5.5G iPods will get longer battery life using a new battery design. A 40 GB model replaces the 30 GB model at no change in price.
3) We'll see a true video iPod about the size of the Samsung Q1 handheld computer with a large, scratchproof LCD display screen and full touchscreen operation. It comes in two versions (80 GB and 120 GB).
4) We'll see a major firmware upgrade for all 5.5G iPods and 2G nanos that correct a number of major known issues with the player.
5) iTunes will upgrade to Version 7.5 to accommodate the "true" video iPod. There will be some interface changes to make it easier to use.

There better be an iPod with at least a 100 gig iPod hard drive because I just added about 20 gigs of music this past week (thanks OiNK :D) and filled up my 60 gig and will fill up an 80 gig very shortly
