My first Mac!

Well after hemming and hawing over the issue, my dh made the decision for me. I received a beautiful 20" imac for Christmas!

So far it's been great, it'll take a bit of getting used to but I really do like it. My only complaint is that the cord for the mouse and the is too short. If I was right handed it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not so it is. Is it possible to get a longer cord or is the only option a cordless mouse?

Hi Jen, congratulations on your new toy! If you really want to use a wired mouse, then you can get any of a variety of cheap USB extension cables...

They should be readily available at any store that sells computers.

in my opinion, if you do get a wireless mouse - do get the mighty mouse, trust me.

There is a port to plug in your mouse on the back of your keyboard. Plug it in there and it will reach fine.

Oh, yeah, I haven't used a wired keyboard in so long! :o If it's a wired keyboard, this is certainly also the easiest option.

Congratulations! Mac's for christmas are a nice present (I wouldnt know, never had one at christmas.. too impatient)

Dont forget about the help menu when you're on your desktop view. On there is handy hints for people who have moved over to a Mac.

My experience with the wireless MM has not been good. The right click frequently stops working and the tracking has been bad. I've decided that I'll stick with Logitech for now.

What kind of issues were there? I plan on buying an imac with wireless kb/mouse and if there are issues that don't exist with wired, i'd love to know before im out of luck. I got a wireless keyboard for my PC (manf. by M$) and its almost useless for mild gaming (like WoW) since it doesn't respond if you press more than two buttons at the same time. I got to wondering if the same issue might exist with the apple wireless keyboard

Are you exaggerating or being serious when you say your keyboard didn't respond with more than two keys at once? So you couldn't press a modifier key sequence like Alt-F4?

The Apple Wireless keyboard probably isn't lag-free... and gamers do tend to be the ones most likely to complain. So do take that into account. It's very usable for non-gaming activities. I don't play games on my iMac so I can't comment on that specifically.

Yes I prefer Logitech's mice too. The only thing on the Mighty Mouse that is designed superiorly to most of Logitech's mice is the scroll ball (something that none of Logitech's mice have). Everything else on the Mighty Mouse is poorly designed (including the hard to press side button and the right side click that doesn't work as well as a mouse that has 2 physical buttons). Plus the shape of the Mighty Mouse (and the location of its buttons) makes it hard to move and pick up off the desk without pressing a button.

Go for the wireless Mighty Mouse, it's awesome.

The scroll ball in my mighty mouse doesn'y work when you scroll down :( It's really annoying because I like the feedback from it when you click and can't use it because everyone needs a scroll ball
