Hey all. I'm planning to order a C2D Black MacBook later today. Since I'm coming from the PC world, my mp3 player is a Creative Zen Micro 5GB. I was wondering if there was a way (i.e. some sort of freeware) I could use to put all the music that is on it onto my MacBook.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah try XNJB (http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/)

It sometimes works. What type of Zen are you on? It was craptastic™ on my Micro Photo.

I had no problems with XNJB when I used a JB3 (Jukebox 3).

It's a Zen Micro 5GB. This wouldn't be long-term. Just so I can dump all my songs into iTunes on my MB and until I get an iPod.

I've been trying to install my Creative Zen Nano Plus on a Macbook for weeks and have also downloaded XNJB - still no success. Any ideas about what to do next short of buying a new mp3? Sadly this zen is new. Any help greatly appreciated, cheers.

I was wondering how this thread was going. I have a Zen Neeon and recently purchased an iMac. Enjoying the transition from PC to Mac apart from the Zen and Mac not being on speaking terms. I can see the Zen come up as a device on the Mac desktop and it lets me throw music to it with the Zen even lighting up as if it is receiving data but when I check the Zen the music is not there.

Have just tried the XNJB program and no luck unless I am doing something wrong it doesn't recognise the Zen. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, Hi all I am new!

No need for replies on Zen problem I bought a 8GB iPod Nano today. All is right in my world once again.

the xnj.... whatever.... didn't work for me either. I really, really don't want to convert to iPod... I have the whole setup for my zen! :(
It makes me sort of doubt Mac that they're so bias- love my MacBook though. Is there any other program available?

Well Mac's ploy worked on me... I just caved in and bought an iPod.... I'm still annoyed for Mac's lack of universal programs tho.

I'm glad I came across this thread. I'm thinking of buying a iMac. (no experience w/any Apple product, besides the Beatles ;))........) My son just got a Zen Stone. My ancient pirated WindowsMe doesn't like it, missing integral files.....
Now I'm wondering--in conversing with the salesman, all of my Windows-based files on my ext Zip and on my cpu should transfer seamlessly to the iMac, and all of my usb devices will work, according to him. EXCEPT that Zen. Now at this point, I don't mind getting him a Shuffle instead, but it seems that Mac is being quite exclusive in the Mp3 department. Is this true with other Mp3 players?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. The iMac seems to make sense, and this would be a big transition for me(or so it seems)

Hey does anyone have any problems where XNJB randomly shuts down on you when you try to perform an action? i have a zen micro, a really old one that's in the discontinued line now and that's what it does!

Does anybody know if there is a way to force the Mac to see my Zen player? When I plug it in via USB I can charge my Zen but the Mac does not see it. If it does see it I cannot find a way to add anything to it. Some how XNJB can see it but I cannot. I would like to know how to work on the Zen w/o using XNJB if possible.

For anyone who is having problems with this, many of the answers are simple. If you don't want to cave as SarieAnn did, first off, when you plug in your Creative ZEN or whatever you might have, open XNJB, plug in your player and wait for it to turn on. Once the player is fully powered up, press the 'Connect' button at the bottom-right hand corner of the window. You should see a USB symbol with arrows spinning around it on the player and connected should display at the bottom of the window. You have now successfully connected. You can now add music to your ZEN as they are arranged in the folders of your computer. In my opinion, it should sync with you iTunes library, but I guess we don't have that luxury here. Anyway, you can edit playlist orders, which you cannot do in the player and a few other things.

One of the problems I've recently been having is that videos are not recognized by my player. I upload them to the 'Videos' folder under the 'Data' tab. I have tried both .mp4 and .mpg. If anyone has a solution to this problem, please tell me as there are several videos I wanted to watch. (Mostly entertaining YouTube stuff...:p)

Don't just cave and get an iPod. They are severely overrated. My Creative ZEN, which I got refurbished on eBay for $70, does more than the iPod nano they have out now (- "Shake-to-Shuffle," but who uses that, anyway?). Or at least if you're going to get a player, look around and read reviews before you buy them. I would highly recommend it...

I don't think you need any software to use the Zen. It looks to the computer just like a Flash Drive. All you need to do is drag the MP3 files on or off the device.

Funny thing, I was actually running into the same sort of problems a while back. It was the same for downloading as well. What OS are you using? This made a major difference to me. I was using 10.4 until I accidentally installed 10.3 (long story...). This brought up several problems. I can't remember exactly what I did, but it is working now. One thing you might try is connecting the player, then rebooting. When the computer reboots, only have XNJB open to manipulate files. I seemed to run into more problem if the files I copied to a from the player were not in my actual 'Music' folder. This should get rid of most problems. If you still cannot get it to work well, go ahead and reply and I'll try assist you further.

Hey all, hoping someone can help me here...
Creative Nomad JB3, trying to transfer wav files to my new macbook

JB3 version 1.40.06p
mac OSX 10.5.6
XNJB v 1.5.5

JB3 connects fine, can talk mac > jb3 fine (erase files, get track list, update time and date, etc) but tried 1 file at a time, transfer starts then error message in 'queue'
usb_bulk_read:usb_bulk

'enable fast data transfers' unchecked in preferences

I installed this software recently and tried it, worked fine (once)
Now on the road, 8 gigs of wav on the jb3 I need to take off and getting this error message every time

more info:

error:
usb_bulk_read (ReadPipeTO) :error reading from bulk endpoint 82: pipe is stalled,njb3_get_file_block:I/O failure on USB data pipe

NOT using a hub, tried other USB port on the macbook, tried many diff usb cables...

mp3 file transfers ok, but no luck with the wavs

Also tried deleting and re-installing XNJB, no luck

thx in advance

You cannot play .wav files on a Mac as they are protected file format that Macintosh does not have rights to use on their systems. In order to remedy this, you should check out Switch, a free audio conversion software found here (http://www.nch.com.au/switch/). Just convert all of your files to .aac or .mp3, whatever your choice is. I had the same problem when I made my PC to Mac conversion. Hope this helps. If you need any more help, just go ahead and reply to this. My email account is subscribed so I should receive it quite quickly.

You don't need special software. iTunes can converts audio formats for you. See this write up on the Apple web site http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 (Also notice that .WAV is on Apple's list of suported audio file formats.)

conversion not the problem
Transfer OFF the JB3 to the macbook is the problem...

I have been able to get a wav or 2 off (on occaision) but now, all I get is above error message.

Wav's play fine in itunes for me...

~J

I'm actually thinking that XNJB program doesnt work with USB 2.0 (according to them)....

is my macbook trying to grab/transfer too fast? and The JB3 cant keep up?
Hence the error message -

usb_bulk_read (ReadPipeTO) :error reading from bulk endpoint 82: pipe is stalled,njb3_get_file_block:I/O failure on USB data pipe

Make any sense?

Any way to 'slow down' the USB 2.0 port on the macbook? (lol)

I hate forums sometimes. So much incorrect and false information. WAVs play on Macs just fine. You can even open them in Quick Look or by opening the file info, let alone using iTunes for which WAV is one of the standard import/payback options.

I have an old Creative Zen Neeon 6gb (around 3 years old) and recently inherited my sis' old Macbook (1-2 years old).

When my Creative is plugged in my Macbook is able to detect the connection and shows it on the desktop as an ejectable icon.

It also shows up in iTunes, however when I copied my mp3 files over I noticed a few days later (it could have happened immediately, I probably didn't notice it) the file names were all screwed up (e.g. they were listed as 0X - SONG TITLE, or SONG TITLE, or ARTIST NAME - SONG TITLE #123 [some random numbers?])

When I tried to change it back to normal (I'm a fussy guy =x) the file would just change itself back to the weird titles.

Also it was listed as Nomad MuVo on iTunes. Any help here?

ok I can't *really* test this at the moment, but shouldn't the creative zen work fine with songbird? I mean songbird supports different devices right? are creative products included? if not, someone should really just nag the dev team to make devices register with songbird...

Thanks Eraserhead for recommending xnjb. My zen player refuses to die. :)It has had some lapses of function  since 2005 when I got it. But now its out of retirement once again and will be supplying my car stereo with badly needed tunes!!!!!!!! Thanks again!

I also have a Zen Vision. I installed XNJB, per the many forums I visited concerning this topic. Results are...weird. Sometimes XNJB works, sometimes it doesn't work. It's random.Does not work consistently, nor does it fail consistently so that I can narrow down possible causes of malfunction. Also, when it works, it will sometimes just quit for no reason. Like I said, inconsistent. Erratic. Took me 3 hours to creat just one playlist. Anyone have a solution? I love my Creative Zen Vision 30Gb and would really like to keep using it with my Macbook.
