View Full Version : laptop sleeve or new bag - what do you guys think?

Right now I have a messenger bag, which is decently sized but not that large. I'm getting a 15" MBP very soon and want to be able to carry it around. However Im currently in college and thus I will need to carry a couple other things at a time, maybe 1 book and a notebook along with the mbp. So should I pick up a new bag -- I would only want a messenger bag, not a backpack -- or find some kind of sleeve that i could place the mbp in which i could then place in my bag I already own.

In either case, I want to make sure that the MBP stays very safe. could you recommend either a particular brand/model of sleeveo or protective case (assuming i keep my old bag) or a new messenger bag that would fit my criteria?

They have these skins in the apples tore that fit tight around the laptop without any bulgind pockets so it's only a couple inches thicker then a regular laptop.. You can get that and throw it in a bookbag/backpack whatever.

Or there are alot of other options, briefcase style bag, messenger bag with built in slots.

I have a Booq Vyper M2 sleeve and I am very happy with it. It is a semi rigid design, harder and with more stiffness than a neoprene sleeve, but not hard or heavy. The zipper goes all the way around to the back so it can open completely. I also leave my MacBook Pro sitting in it when it's on my lap and it keeps my lap cooler. It sells for $55 or so.

You will probably save the most money from getting a sleve and then getting a good size cheap bag. I did that for my 17 MBP. I got a good quality sleave and a cheap $20.00 case. It is great I can cary all my Crap and keep my MBP safe too.

I've got a messenger bag for my 13.3" Macbook from this company:

It seems pretty good so far, and it has separate compartments for the laptop and any other stuff like books and notepads.

Their website is so annoying I could not even atempt to look at a product.

Right now I am rocking an Incase case. Not the sleeve. I found that I had the temptation to put the sleeve into my backback with all my books, which is not the best thing for the computer.

I really like the Waterfield Design sleeves from www.sfbags.com. I can put the macbook in it and then into another bag that does not scream "laptop in here -- steal me"! Sleeves are good and padded, not too expensive ($39 for my 13" macbook sleeve) and their customer service cannot be beat! There are options to customize the sleeves if you want -- pockets, straps, etc. Good luck!

Pretty minimal. Enough room for 15" MBP and accessories. Very, very sleek. Not recommended for use with man boobs.

I used to have the Timbuk2 sleeve for my 15" Powerbook and it was great.
It padded the machine and didn't take up much more space. I wish I still had
that computer. :confused:

i bought the STM Rebound from RadTech for my MB and sadly it is not skin tight or form fitted. There is a lot of space and room so I'm returning it. I'm considering the STM Glove Series or the Boog Vyper

I haven't seen this bag before, but here's some comments:
1. Brenthaven puts out top notch bags. (I remember looking through a few at CompUSA.)
2. The price looks really good - usually I had thought Brenthavens ran near $100.
3. Are you currently carrying around a messenger bag? If you aren't I'd suggest you get a sleeve where you could fit in the bag you have.
4. If you want to get a laptop sleeve, I also agree with Waterfield sleeve endorsements on this thread already. Great construction, with sleeves made in correct sizing and customer service. Incase... I've seen them and they just aren't the same quality as Waterfield....not as padded. Tucano I've seen in the store....also not padded well enough for me.
