Unfortunately, my adapter has broken and am looking to buy a replacement.
Can anyone in this excellent community help a poor student?
Thanks.

You mean the ac adapter? Did you break the pin end that goes into the computer or another piece?

Oh, one more thing to mention... look carefully at the label on your adapter. There are two stickers on the main plastic casing... one of them should say "Apple xxW Portable Power Adapter" where xx is either 45 or 65. It should most likely be 45, but I thought I heard that the very last iBook generation used 65's (the 15 and 17" powerbooks also use 65). If you have a 45, you can use either PS. But if you have a 65, you must get a replacement 65.

You're still going to want to replace that as soon as humanly possible. I nuked my old iBook G3 trying to get extra mileage out of a damaged cord.

Alas! you are right. I now desperately need an Adapter. It has died a peaceful death.
Please if some has one to spare, please let me know. I will pay through paypal.
Thanks much !!

$35 shipped priority mail? It's the yo-yo style, but it's 45W and has the smaller tip that fits the g4's. PM if you'd like it!

is there any way to fix a broken pin thing? i have an extra that broke like that, and it always seemed a waste for such a lil part to leave it inoperable.

ummm... hmm, i guess ya know the lil inside pin thinger? well, if you are looking at the outer ring, it is a clear shot, ie no prong sticking out, but the inside housing is still there... ive got a pic if that would help. btw, this is the part that goes in the laptop :P, just making sure.

If you're comfortable with a dremel and soldering iron, you can perform a little surgery to dissect the white cap. The inner pin is simply an audio jack that can be had at radio shark. Make sure, of course, that you seal all of your electrical connections back apart from one another  ;) :D I've done it successfully on three of them, but I can't emphasize enough that you need to know your way around electricity.
