So I am rather new at importing video from a video camera into a mac. This is where the problem starts, my family got a new camera for christmas a Sony Handy Cam DCR-DVD405

This camera does not have a Firewire port on it (from what i can see) and I know that iMovie does not recognize it (because of this?). However, when i connect the camera via USB my iBook recognizes it and sees the dvd. Now if there is a way to drag and drop into iMovie this way, that would be great.
If not, is there another way I can go about this?

I, too, am new to the "video to a Mac" scene. My new Sony HandyCam is not the same as yours, but it, too, does not have a Firewire port. I was given this very helpful link on this forum. After reading it very carefully and following all the steps I solved my problem and have successfully downloaded the video and audio and saved it as a QuickTime movie which I should be able to use in iMovie.
