Hi Everyone. After my previous thread, I figured I would just see what was available in terms of trading an iMac G5 for a PowerBook G4. Still not entirely sure I'd like to, it depends on if I receive and good offers/etc. The reason I am looking to trade is I miss the portability I used to have with my old iBook. The iMac's specifications are as followed:

17'' iMac G5 (ALS Model)
1.8Ghz PPC G5
1Gb RAM (Apple Installed, 1x 1Gb Stick)
Combo Drive
160Gb HDD
AppleCare till May 2008*** (See Below)
OS X Tiger (Docs. & Media)
iLife 05 (Docs. & Media)
Mint Cond. (0 Dead Pixels)(No noticable abrasions, scratches, etc)

All orig. documentation/disks are included HOWEVER I do not have the orig. packaging so it will ship with tons of bubble wrap/etc. (I have shipped many computers in the past)

***The AppleCare docs. have been lost although Apple has reassured me AppleCare Coverage stays w/ the computer whether you have the orig. documentation or not.

References: eBay ID "Schaef2493" (One bad feedback, basically the buyer's fault and was resolved as stated in the buyer's "follow-up" message) Also have done a very smooth trade with 4JNA here on MR.

I will get pictures for those interested up sometime today.

Thanks

I went ahead and threw up a bid to get things started.

I wonder what the reserve is. Weeeee.

Good luck.

ill say it once, and say it again, dont use a reserve price.

search ebay for your model, or similar.

try to search for completed auctions.

the avg. ending price of those is what yours will go for, guaranteed.

with a reserve you are basically keeping lots of bidders from bidding because its basically saying "here is my auction, but its not an auction because you have to pay MY asking price at least"

it works against you, not for you, especially for things that are on ebay all the time, only rare and unique things need a reserve because there is no precedence for a price.

if you arent happy with the prices your machine has been going for lately on ebay, then you need to sell it elsewhere.

I agree, a reserve price discourages bidding by many people on eBay.

However, some sellers are ok with that because of the safety net of the reserve price.

its not a safety net. its a security blanket, one which the only true winner is eBay who gets another fee to add to your listing fees.

guaranteed...

ill say it again

GUARANTEED

your item will go for just as much as the last one. all those people who bid and didnt win, will bid on yours and will just as likely bid the same amounts as before.

dont use a reserve price, 99.5% of the time.

seriously.

Thanks for the reserve help & the nice words guys. I've seen the prices up & down and unless the iMac sells for my reserve I won't be able to buy my next computer leaving me empty handed. Hence me using a reserve.

Thank you Cordless_Drill & Cybergypsy (& anyone else who may have) for bidding! Good luck to everyone!

Any questions can be asked/answered here or through eBay.

Thanks Again

I used reserves at first and it completely screwed me. Once I stopped using them, damn near everything I sold went for well over other people's "Buy It Now!" prices. Even my own "Buy It Now!" prices, in several cases.

The more people bid on your auction, the better your ending price will be. More people will bid if there's no reserve.

I listened to your advice & REMOVED THE RESERVE! The next bid ($511+) will meet the reserve.

Any offers on here will be considered as well. I need to move this!

Update your listing Title to say No Reserve....;)

How can I do that? It doesn't seem to be letting me.

It should let you? The only time I can update my listing title is when the auction is almost over or if there is a 'best offer' submitted.

you have 4 days left on the auction don't worry. I just sold a g3 ibook and in the last two minutes it went from 350 to 460.

Mind me asking how many watchers/active bidders you had leading up to the end? Only 23% or so of my watchers are bidding. I estimate that maybe 80% of those actually intend to do so and don't just plan on watching it to see the end price so maybe i'll see a few more bids later on. & Thanks Cordless_Drill for bidding! Keep it coming! :)

bidders/watchers percentage doesn't really tell you anything. the better stat is to see if the total number of watchers continues to increase. if so, that means that people would be interested in buying your item for at least a little more than the current price.

I think this one will go for $775. Let's see how close I come.

Would it be a good idea to try and sell my PC computer on here in hopes of putting that money towards my iMac purchase? Or should I stick with ebay?
This seems to be a pretty close-nit community and I feel I could trust a site like this more (I said more not completely :) )than the "anonymity" of ebay.
