the fight is on. Prepare to watch a battle of the titans, grappling giants in the age old rivalry.
It all begins...
So this year we have Sony's entire future resting on the success of PS3, with Nintendo and MS going all-out to stop the rise of the big black box; we've got Blu-Ray at the throat of HD-DVD and Zune steadily rising in the background to counter the iPod; we've got Vista, a next-gen OS from MS at a time when Apple are in the strongest position they have been in for years to take marketshare from Redmond and we're seeing all of these battlefronts colliding in our living rooms as battle breaks out across the world.
This year is 2007. This year is war.
MA.

Im thinking that if it was a teaser just like 2002's it would have changed already. For the most part i think its a filler becasue apple took the hint people hate the get a mac add playing right wen they open their browser, but apple most likey figuerd it would be precived as a teaser so they went ahead with it.

i don't think the hype around this MWSF could be any higher so i suspect we'll be disappointed again.
Good point.
I thought the very same thing when I ran across the homepage this morning.
However, Apple doesn't say anything about January, but rather 2007. If you don't get what you want from MWSF they can always say there's the rest of the year. Fight the hype.

Macbook and nano..what else?
Yeah, sorry, possibly sandwiching together a few too many Apple-isms. ;)
But imagine being able to tell people you didn't just buy a Mac Pro, you bought a Mac Pro Extreme...
Imagine the buzz when you heave that glossy black 8-core Mac Pro out of the box for the first time. Now imagine how you'd feel if it looked just like any other dual-dual Mac Pro...
Although what do Apple do when they make a faster one..? call it the Extreme Plus? (see what I did there? :) )

I've glanced over most of the posts in this forum, and while there has been a lot of analysis about what the 'teaser' could mean, no one has suggested the idea of the light being an allusion to a projector. I'm not saying Apple's releasing one, but rather that it could be a reference to movies and Apple's bid to take over the livingroom. With that in mind, I don't think the keynote will be much different than what macshrine has posted on their site. The problem with hype is that you build yourself up to a frenzy of expectation that can't always be fulfilled. Just look at Michigan's crushing loss yesterday to USC ::cries:: :(

I think people look into these things WAY too much then wonder why they are disappointed with what has been released.
To me its just 'the dawning of a new era' message i.e moving into new markets etc. Nothing cryptic just obvious. I agree sometimes Apple play with these things but they are a lot more obvious and are noticed straight away.

I always cringe a little bit when I see Apple showboat so willingly... I'm a believer in underpromising and overdelivering...not the other way around. Apple should play down the rumors and expectations, or else Wallstreet is going to have a field day punishing Apple on Tuesday. Of course, then there is the regular December quarter earnings coming out in the same timeframe....

I totally understand what you are saying, but this is misapplied. Apple doesn't try to promise world peace with their products, but they do try to make you sweat with anticipation to find out what is coming. They believe that you have to sell the sizzle to get people to buy the steak. Seriously, people here are salivating for the next model to come out. Look at other companyies that are more low-key in their announcements (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.). Do they deliver substantially similar products? Sure. Is anyone waiting in line for the chance to catch a glimpse of their CEO showing a tiny bit of said product?
Apple will save the underpromise, overdeliver bit for the functionality of the product. They will go out to make you want to know what that functionality is.

Doing it this way also helps stock prices. Insane rumour hype of 24 core iPod phones will boost stock prices because if it did come out it would blow everyone out of the water. Then when then release iTV and a bit of info on Leopard stock doesnt skyrocket because theres no 24core iphone but it does still rise as new products mean new business.

Well here are some facts:
Pro applications:
- Shake has not seen a Major release in a long time (4.1 was the switch to Intel)
- Final Cut Pro + Studio apps have not seem major releases for a long time
So I would expect these to be the BIG tings in 2007 (NAB 2007 maybe?)
Office Applications:
- IWorks: need a major revamp to make them fully useful and useable (spreadsheet? PAges more like word?). I would expect the announcement at MWSF 2007
Hardware:
I have been using my Apple Cinema display (30") for a long time and I am not surprised by the new screen rumors. Remember that HD DVD and Blu rays are here and that they require HDMI connections.
Iphones: too many rumors for this to be a lie. So : It will be true... Question is: Will they be enough phones available RIGHT AWAY? demamnd is going to be huge (form / design / software: I expect Apple to come BIG on this one to really differentiate themselves from the crap around there).
Ipod Video: Jobs is going to announce major agreement between Apple and the Movie Industry at MWSF.
Tablet PC? Would love it and would buy one right away
Buy Office if you want Word. Pages is designed for a blend of word processor and desktop publishing tool. It's going to be a low-end solution to solve problems that is overkill to InDesign or Quark.

Steve has a long standing distaste for Sun management. It harkens back to the Openstep debacle.
Having been on the inside of NeXT and Apple the best people will see are some of Sun's OpenSolaris tools be augmented and added to OS X.

Lots of cool stuff, "with a catch"
If it's Appple's DRM on music, some new cell phone, or potentially whatever they ship for the living room, I'm predicting the reaction will be "really cool, but..."
...Can't transfer recorded programs to an ipod
...Must use a third party cell phone provider
...Only compatible with iTunes
...You'll need Leopard to do it
If they're setting high expectations, you might want to be prepared to be let down...
... That, and as they get bigger, certain "marketing" decisions will get made to pump up the hype to justify the lofty stock price...

I joined MacRumors five minutes ago. I've kept an idle eye on MacRumors for a few years now, reading insightful thoughtful posts and threads with interest, wondering why some choose to use these forums as a means to wage semantic battles with other members, getting caught up in the hype before each new Stevenote, and wondering when the next big Apple initiated iPod/iTunes/iTunes Store cultural shift might happen.
After reading the title of this thread and seeing Apple's new homepage, I really think it's coming soon.
By cultural shift I mean something truly innovative and habit changing. Put simply, my life is different now than it was before I downloaded iTunes in 2002 and bought my first iPod in 2003. Music has always been a huge part of my life, but now I can take it all with me and access it from pretty much anywhere at anytime. I even have a solar-powered iPod charger for God's sakes.
I don't think the same can be said for many other recent products/technologies. Digital photography let me cheaply take and edit 200 pictures of baby pandas in Sichuan, China last week, DVDs did away with forget-to-rewind fees, smaller cellphones made them easier to lose, 802.11g lets me email from the couch, HDTV gets me a little too familiar with Lebron's pores, YouTube lets me watch Mentos-in-Coke experiments, and HD-DVD and Bluray are making me relive Betamax/VHS wars. Perhaps I oversimplify, but I can't think of any other innovation besides the internet/email and cell phones in the 90s that has completely changed my life on a day-to-day basis. Maybe Google.
Anyway, what I think I'm getting at is that we're due for another big (really big) thing soon. With Apple's foot in the door with music (more like entire body), photos, movies, and slick my-grandmother-can-figure-it-out interfaces and software, I think 2007 really could be a big one for the folks at Infinite Loop. Why celebrate your 30th in April when your big onemorethings aren't perfect yet?
Here's to wishing Apple a very happy new year in 2007!
Put beautifully, if I may say so my self.
My thoughts: Something ground-breaking is coming, hopefully.
By the way, is there a possibilty of a "new and improved .Mac" with some kick-butt new features? That would be certainly welcome.
Anyways, only 6 days and 23 hours to go.

... You my friend hit the nail right on the head. This is totally reminiscent of the new UI rumored to be named "illuminess". I think one of the Top Secret features of Leopard will be a completely new UI. Windows is running out of breath, this is Jobs' chance at sprinting past Microsoft for the first time since Windows 3.1
I feel that this banner alludes to events to happen throughout 2007, not just MWSF, but I think we'll get a good view of it during the keynote.
Couldn't agree more. I feel 2007 will be a very exiting year. New technologies to come.

we're not dealing with microshaft, you know. i'm pretty confident that apple will give the "iTV" the ability to transfer recorded programs to both ipods and networked computers. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to transfer them to your ipod after converting them to the right format.
as for the iphone, if the rumor is actually true, i'd like to think that apple would be making more of a smartphone. not like that shotty ROKR or anything like that. And seeing as it will probably be smartphone-like, my guess is it would be quad-band to support use on all providers.
and as for only being compatible with iTunes... isn't that a good thing? what other program would you rather use??
I really doubt that Apple would do something so drastic to their established Tiger-using customer base as to require Leopard for any new product. It's just not like Apple to do that sort of thing.

lol, this is the 21st Century and Apple still acts like it has the geographical restrictions of 1930's industry. I can't think of many companies of Apple size that even make a distinction between continents these days.

As far as I know, the iTV is not a DVR and will not be a DVR. Apple said they had no interest in this money losing market. They've said similar things in the past and then released products but if you can record shows on the iTV what's the point of buying and streaming them from you Mac/PC?

I believe that Apple promoted that event as the introduction of several minor "fun" products. It was the rumor community, not Apple, that overly hyped that event.
Speaking of the Apple Hi-Fi, it still strikes me as a product that doesn't fit into Apple's scheme of things. Apple doesn't make other consumer products, so why a bookshelf speaker system? I think Apple has more planned for the Hi-Fi, and I wonder if there will be a tie-in to iTV.

The AppleInsider thing isn't even something that would contradict what they said. Apple has announced things and released them a month or two later before.
I'd love to see how Steve Jobs plans to "demo" ZFS too. No, seriously, I'd love to see it. It'll be an interesting exercise demonstrating such a low level bit of technology. He could follow it by demonstrating the new garbage collection system in Leopard's Objective C, and finally, one last thing, a three hour presentation on XNU's new kernel message passing system.

For me there is no question that this is directly related to the rumours of the aqua replacement for Leopard. It just seems to fit the descriptions and name (Luminance?) perfectly.
Leading me to believe Leopard will ship in a weeks time. Seems unlikely but I guess we'll see.

I current iMac seems like the perfect design, I can't imagine where they would take it. The only thing I think would be the ultimate replacement would be an iMac with the form factor of current models, but doubled as a tablet. So you could use it as a regular iMac or as a portable. However that wouldn't work for the 20 inch plus iMacs.

I fully agree.
I mean, I'm excited too but damn people. I'm starting to become more aware at how many of us Mac users read into these little tiny things WAY WAY WAY too much. :p
Yeah, it's kinda funny... I'm totally excited about going to MacWorld SF next week, and I'm sure there are going to be a bunch of new products, some of which will "ooh me and aww me"... but regardless of what is released, everyone on here is going to be disappointed about something. I think we can all agree that the Apple phone is probably not going to be released, at least not at MWSF... and yet, people will be b*tching about it on here when they find out it wasn't released... and there might be a delay with Leopard, or any other product that people are looking forward to.
Apple could release something totally amazing, and it wouldn't satisfy everyone because "Apple didn't release such and such like I wanted..."
Ugh.
But relating to your post... yeah, it *is* New Years... it could have just been Apple's way of saying Happy New Years... then again, it is one week before MWSF and their way of building up hype... who knows :P

wI don't see why you wouldn't be able to transfer them to your ipod after converting them to the right format.
If I'm NBC, Comcast, Direct TV or anyone else for that matter, I might chafe at the idea of my content getting loose on the Internet without getting a cut...
I just think the greed issue hasn't been figured out. Maybe Apple can help move it along - they certainly helped open up digital music with ITunes...

I don't think they will rename anything - but you'll see a nice highly spec'ed black iMac. Now I've said too much.
That is my expectation too.....
The last time Apple created a similar hype based on their frontpage (the 2002 one), it was the iMac that got tha major update and form factor change.
It is now time for the first real update in design for one of the Macs. Technically speaking it's the MacBook Pro's turn, but it is the iMac which is most appealing to consumers. If there were to be an excellent time to change the ff of the current iMac ist is this year's MWSF.

For me there is no question that this is directly related to the rumours of the aqua replacement for Leopard. It just seems to fit the descriptions and name (Luminance?) perfectly.
Leading me to believe Leopard will ship in a weeks time. Seems unlikely but I guess we'll see.
Also I'm putting another vote in for an iMac redesign soon, if not at this MacWorld.
It is very unlikely that Leopard will ship in a week. From everything that I have heard the latest versions still are not stable enough to release. There will probably be a preview of some of the features that we haven't been shown yet, but they probably wont even announce a release date.

Ok, here is my uber-sucky analysis of such things. (Although it is probably too early to really say...)
-Apple is either just quite simply wishing us all a Happy New Year, or they are a bit giddy about their soon-to-be-unleashed exciting and innovative new products and decided to create some (more) hype.
-No one knows what the heck is going to happen at WWDC. There may be the predictable: iLife '07, iTV, Leopard updates, "we now have a bunch of Apple Stores" or there could be the not-so-predictable: 6G iPod, a 98' Cinema display, or (really doubt it) an gorgeous Apple Phone. The thing is with Apple, you can't always tell what they are going to do.
-And the definite: The single particles in the rays of light on the homepage, don't secretly spell 'iPhone' if you enlarge it x89 and tilt you head at a 20 degree angle, it's Apple, not 'the Lion King' (ok they have some ties but still...).
Let's all hope something incredible and ground-breaking comes out of Macworld next Tuesday, and unfortunately that is about all we can do.

The graphic is an eclipse representaton
Its like the diamond ring effect you get when the sun juts peeps out, The apple logo isn't black, its the colour anything looks compared to the intense light behnd it.
Does this mean what is coming will eclipse everything else??
Well based on that comment, i think that logo screams new ipod. lets be honest, there are no other markets that apple can really eclipse at the moment, so a new super ipod could eclipse soon and everything else. It could be apple's "check mate".

As far as I know, the iTV is not a DVR and will not be a DVR. Apple said they had no interest in this money losing market. They've said similar things in the past and then released products but if you can record shows on the iTV what's the point of buying and streaming them from you Mac/PC?
If iTV had the ability to record tv content, and has a internet connection, then it could open up more content providers to the apple market place ;)
if the iTv is interfacing the incoming tv signal then it can "link" to the "channel" and a menu would come up where you could buy/record the show. This way you can channel surf and purchase shows to view later. :D

Prepare to be outrageously disapointed...
At MacWorld, SJ will announce the following:
Leopard will be released; on March 13, 2007 after three more months of continuous testing to make sure that everything from CoreAnimation to the new super-efficient ZFS File System will work well for everyone everywhere from G3 to Intel Core2Quatro.
On that note, there will be a new high end Mac Pro and Xserve that will be avaliable with Leopard on its release date as a custom configuration ($700 Extra for Quad Core Processors over base price).
Upon release of the new Mac Pros, there will be custom configuration of High Density DVD drives such as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
iTV will be released today.
10.4.9 will also be released today so that all recent Macs can supply iTV with HD content via 802.11n.
New movie studios have been added to the iTunes Store, however they are being offered at the same resolution as all current downloads, sorry.
There is a new Mac Mini for sale starting today incorporating the Core2 Duo processors and the updated Airport Extreme 802.11n.
Perfect ;), there is plenty of time for the one last thing :D
It would be cool if Jonathan Ive came out and pulled out X# of mock up TelePods to tease us and show the public the thoughtfulness of design apple infuses into their products.
-And the definite: The single particles in the rays of light on the homepage, don't secretly spell 'iPhone' if you enlarge it x89 and tilt you head at a 20 degree angle, it's Apple, not 'the Lion King' (ok they have some ties but still...).

In spite of things people here say from time to time, Steve Jobs is only human. So he, too, will probably use the internet from time to time. Since people often visit sites related to work or hobby, he will probably come across this site, and this thread, sooner or later.
And laughing his iAss off. I mean, look at this thread. Look at all the speculation. Look at the people analyzing the light rays and black logos. Look at all the people actually expecting to be disappointed because a lot of stuff never even mentioned by anyone from Apple will not be released. Look at the 10 pages worth of posts within half a day. All because a small image with a new year's greeting appeared on a website.
Well, Steve, enjoy your laugh. You've deserved it. That's what you get for making products so 'cool' people go 'Hmm, new iMac, $1999. Oh well, who needs food?' Give us a nice show on the 9th, about half of the rumoured products and one more thing no-one saw coming, and we all will remain loyal followers for the next thirthy years. Welcome to 2037.
you ever wonder if he actually has an account on this site or others. for all we know he is in this forum as we speak, just playing with our heads. he may have said his "predictions" and we may have passed them off as just another guess.

I hate to read too much into the graphic on the homepage because the light behind the logo could just mean its the start of a New Year.
But, the way this could be read is the light is shining on a rising Apple logo...as if to say that 2007 will be the year that Apple transforms itself into a new "Apple"....a consumer products company (ie Macs, iPod, iTV, iPhone, HDTV, etc)
Also, the colors are similar to the iTunes UI, suggesting that Mac OS X is about to get a totally new UI, like some rumors have predicted.
Compile 'em all
Jan 2, 2007, 08:55 PM
As everybody is making things up I'd like to add my ideas as well...
First; It will be named the iPod Phone. In one or two years, there will be no iPod without a phone (except the Shuffle...), and the added name will be dropped, like the iPod Video/Photo before.
Second; It's very unlikely that they would try this without including the PC-platform. All functions will be the same on both the Mac and the PC. The iPod market is so much more than the Mac.
Third; The phone will, like today's iPods, connect to a computer through iTunes. Why iTunes? Because it's the only Apple-software on the PC-platform (I know QT, but get real!). Therefore all syncing will be made through iTunes, if they would not chose to convert iSync for the PC. Which is not very likely.
Forth; Apple and the iPod is about engineering, UI and design, not high tech. The first generation of iPod Phones will probably just be an iPod with a built in phone-function. Well built? Yes. Attractive? Yes. Good for music and phone calls? Yes! Wifi, Blue-tooth or PDA functions? Definitely not. This is a product for anybody, not tech geeks.
And fifth; The gamble, it will not include a camera. Cameras in phones are ****. Apple would not like to be connected to such things. This is not a multi-every-thing. It is an iPod with a built in phone.
The iPod Phone will be great, sexy and expensive. And I'll buy one.

"The Apple II was introduced on April 16, 1977 at the first West Coast Computer Faire. Despite a price higher than competitors, it quickly pulled away from its two main rivals, the TRS-80 and Commodore PET, to become the market leader (and the symbol of the personal computing phenomenon) in the late 70s due to its color graphics, high build quality, and open architecture. While early models used ordinary cassette tapes as storage devices, this was quickly superseded by the introduction of a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk drive and interface, the Disk II." -wikipedia

Since everyone else is analyzing I thought I would for fun:
The graphic is 744x420 pixels, which is the exact same ratio as a 16x9 screen (about 1 to 1.77). It definitely portrays a wide image as the Apple logo is able to fit width wise, but is cut off in terms of height.
The Apple has some depth to it as you can see on the lighting on the right of the Apple and also around the leaf. This isn't like the corporate logo which is more embossed, but more like the PHYSICAL Apple logo on their retail stores, which has real physical depth. It's like a marquee Apple which might appear on a store--or a theatre?
The Apple is black or dark. We aren't sure. We do know that there are either multiple light sources or multiple flares of light from the same source. They are bright enough to illuminate PART of the front of the Apple on the upper left hand side. Whatever is coming will illuminate Apple more. It will illuminate what is now dark.
The other possibility is that there is another light source from the front of the logo which is illuminating the upper left corner.
It's hard to say. But we can see muted Aqua colors, darkness, with multiples sources of light, and a perfect 16x9 ratio.
I would say if it means anything, which it probably doesn't, it's theatre related.

IMHO, it's just a "We got a lot in store in 2007" teaser.
The rays don't look like a "sun" to me given the apparent multiple points of origin and/or inconsistent intensity of the light coming from behind. Instead, the graphic reminds me of a view a person might have from the front of a movie theater looking back at the audience, leading me to believe that the "a lot in store" is a very strong focus on video for 2007.
Sorry, not that exciting of a post, but maybe it's not that exciting of a graphic (or story behind the graphic)

I can't believe nobody has said it yet: OS11
But seriously, I doubt we'll see a lifestyle changing item like the ipod (it's not something you can just magically do when you want to, to change the world). I'd bet, given the lack of rumors with good sources, we'll be getting something out of left field, as well as a few things we expect. I think a simple, sleek, semi-affordable phone is in the works. A smartphone is too small a market, with lots of competition. But think if for an extra 50 bucks you could get your ipod or nano with phone functionality, using the scroll wheel to browse menus (the main method of dialing, anyway), and a tiny slide out number pad?
Early itv or lepord availability is also likely, apple loves to beat deadlines.
As for those who say that this is just a happy new years message, no way. They knew, with the timing and the message, that this would increase hype, and they wouldn't purposely do that unless they had something to show. It might be another ipod hi-fi, but they're building hype for some reason.

Something that nobody has said yet...can't you see that Apple alludes to its 30-year anniversary? It's nothing to do with "Happy New Year"...in fact, it's a simple message that says: "Welcome to the 30th Anniversary Mac", courtesy of FrogDesign Studios...wait and see...
In fact, these are my predictions, right from SJ's personal notebook:
NO iPod announcements, as we talk here of the Macworld...it's only about Macs.
- Apple current state of affairs;
- Leopard preview;
- Updated iWork and Pro apps;
- New Displays;
- MacMini with Core 2 Duo;
- 8-core MacPros;
And two more things:
- 30th Anniversary Mac (FrogDesign Studios);
- the return of Steve Wozniak to an advisory role at Apple.
Just wait and see... ;)

Could it be something really big like a holographic touch screen display (HTSD)? Laptops without screens, now that really would be a game changer. They could become the size of iPods with virtual keyboards projected in the air. I'm sure that would get people switching. The Mac Mini form factor could replace the iMac because there would be no need for the screen.

Ok?
Not true. If it would be something with a global effect it would propably appear on all global markets.
Usually products come to the US and UK first and later dripple into the other markets. Here in Germany we get Macs often some days or even weeks later.
I think this time it's just because of the language why it only appears on the english sites.

Anybody watch the news tonight in the Seattle area? Anyone find it strange that they are talking about a possible iPHONE? Any other cities get that sort of coverage?
NBC News mentioned it... and in Microsoft country, that never happens.
iPhone has already been released, and it's not an Apple product. If Apple call their phone anything, it cannot be iPhone.

As far as I know, the iTV is not a DVR and will not be a DVR. Apple said they had no interest in this money losing market. They've said similar things in the past and then released products but if you can record shows on the iTV what's the point of buying and streaming them from you Mac/PC?When did Apple say they weren't interested in DVRs?
TV is about to evolve into an IPTV realm. How companies make money, how the networks & cable companies shuffle to use the new technologies, that's all an unknown.
One model would be an iTV purchasing movies and TV shows. It'll get really expensive if you get all your TV that way.
Another model could be subscribing to a movie channel or a network and downloading any shows from the previous day to watch within a week. And/or subscribing to streaming sports & news channels.
etc.
If I could subscribe to some movie channels & the scifi channel, and record from FTA (for free), that would be enough for me. I wouldn't need to pay the big $$$ for cable TV. If Apple resells the subscription then they'll make some money from me, and they'll make money by selling me the iTV and my iPod. I rarely buy movies or shows since I simply don't watch them enough to justify it - if you pay $2 for any show you watch (more for movies) it adds up too fast.
edit: I actually don't see Apple selling a DVR... just think your reasoning is flawed :). I could imagine Apple offering a FTA network, free via iTV, with interactive/customised ads.

Right, I am afraid to say it but you are all in fact wrong.
Here is the true meaning of the code, err... i mean teaser:
1) There is light behind the Apple, symbolising illumination and enlightenment. We can take this to mean that Steve Jobs is admitting to being an Illuminatus, and so is preparing to unveil a secret that would devastate the very foundations of mankind, as that is what Illuminati tend to do these days.
2) The Apple is black, which, in French, is written NOIR. This is abviously an Anogram of R(h)INO, suggesting that Apple's new OS will no longer be 'Leopard' but will start off OS11, whose names take after wrinkly land based creatures such as Rhino, Elephants and Tricerotops.
3) The light from behind the Apple is coming from an uneven source (read:uneven sauce), much like thick gravy or that Thai sweet-chilli stuff you sometimes get. This shows that Apple is just the beginning of the culinary spectrum that Jobs' company intend to release. Expect to see Nacho Computers spring up alongside OS11.2 hippo.
4) The image is in 16:9 format. If you take those two numbers, they both add up to give 25, which is a quarter of 100, the Maltese number for Time. Co-incidence? I think not.
5) The top line of text is an anagram of: Featherweight nitty-gritty sunshine beer jrs, which clearly links in with point (1) and point (3), linking them through text, proving a strong, subliminal base for the message.
This proves that the iTV will indeed be revealed at this year's MWSF.

Does anyone else think the iTV looks bollocks? It's too small, and a little too plasticy. A long, thin, black set top bx - smooth and bezeled to match a new UI, would be much nicer than the current sticklebrick that looks more like the power adapter than the actual hardware.

Correct, iTV is what is referred to as a media center extender. What it does is stream your media center files to your PC. I wouldn't call this exactly a money making market. Unlike the iPod/iTunes situation, this is not a giant improvement on the current situation. In fact, one could that it's not an improvement at all.

If Apple is hyping this to such an extent then it has to be something that is transitory to the marketplace.
That means something along the lines of a media device that will integrate some largescale profitability and cultural impact, aka the ipod.
I say this as someone who has never owned or probably will ever own an ipod. Ipod is the devil, until my library can be carried in normal format not that mp3 garbage, but I digress.
My guess is they will produce some sort of media pc device that will easily connect to the standard living room, perhaps with a wireless option. Storage of video data will be kept on servers (for copyright requirements) and people will be able to access their shows and send it right to their TVs.
HD content will follow in short order and Apple will build a library of current content as well as older content. It'll be like HBO on demand except cubed.
That's my two cents.

I know we can all go a little overboard with interpretation sometimes and that the banner may just be a happy new years graphic, BUT... I have noticed that all of Apple's newer design like Front Row and Time Machine seem to have the new interface elements in them. Notice the brushed aluminum X for Tiger and NOW the shiny black X for Leopard and shiny black bar on the sneek peak as well as now a black apple on the banner. I think it is a sign in that we are starting to see more of it revealed. I don't think it is a coincidnece that the new things we see revealed are all coordinated together in design. That's all I have to say for now :)

for 30 years Apple have only been making software for there own computers. From March 2007 You wil be able to install Leopard on every computer.!!!???
What about that?I think the effort would kill Apple. Far too many different hardware combinations out there.
Perhaps they could make it available for a subset - eg: All HP machines? All Dells?. That would cover a large portion of the market. I don't see them doing it though.. at least not this year.
I hear the folks talking about an OSX lite. OSX is BSD with add-ons. iPod has an OS/processor which is different. It'll be very interesting to see what OSX Lite is (if it even exists). I'd be looking for an embedded OS running a Cocoa-Lite API (running most cocoa apps & dashboard). My greatest hope would be that Cocoa-Lite would be made available for Windows and Linux too.

Selling for under $100 .....Actually $99.99, it plugs into the Mac and you log into a site of users with isights. Guys find girls, girls find guys, girls find girls and guys find guys, whatever your thing is because mac users think different.
Each party puts on the device and the other party has control of it, kind of a 69 situation over the internet with video. If your a pig, you can pick a porn-star fill in that covers your body like a cut out but digital.
Now go to town and have a kleenex handy.
It has a timer that allows only 3 uses a 24 hr period to keep the addiction to a minimum. No eating while using unless you are eating the device to pleasure your internet friend. Completely water proof.
Apple will pay me 6 trillion for the licensee copyright fee for the idea.

HD content will follow in short order and Apple will build a library of current content as well as older content. It'll be like HBO on demand except cubed.
That's my two cents.

My predictions in various threads here about iLife and IWork 2007 at MWSF seem to be confirmed by amazon dot com listings.
Fine.
My predictions of a video iPod (handheld video device with high bandwidth access) seems to be confirmed by various sources. I still claim it as rumor, not fact, even at this late date.
My predictions of iTV being a breakout box, an airport supreme device, an iMac+, and a large display device continue to be likely, but not well confirmed.
My predictions of an ApplePhone with candy bar format and unlocked status and high price point do seem closer to reality than ever. Speculation on my part educated by believable reports, notably actual production in the millions in China.
My predictions of the Worldcom, cum Apple telecom center being used for phone and video iPod, and a new iTV bandwidth hungary video download service are near certain.
Apple was bandwidth starved on Christmas iPod sales and the resulting downloads of iTunes and cashing of gift cards. Apple used bandwidth equalization from akami.com and was STILL left bandwidth starved! Pipe clogs, Apple?
I wish Apple would get it over with, and just disclose a stock split at MWSF. Please. They already have a BUNCH of sales and performance figures to bragg about.

Beginning, middle, end. If the beginning took 30 years, the middle will take 60-90. For 2007, I see many disappointed people who drown their misery by ordering iLife and iWork '07 :D
I can't see anything too revolutionary coming out in a week's time. Evolutions, sure. 802.11n, Blu-Ray, faster processors.
Of course you can't see anything revolutionary... if you could, it wouldn't be revolutionary, would it?

How long would people in the USA say "Happy New Year" to each other?
I think the appearance of the picture is a bit long lasting for a simple "Happy New Year".
I don't expect anything revolutionary by Apple on Macworld though. Revolutions don't sell well. Common peopl won't buy things that are way too different from what they are used to. Apple Geeks and Computer Geeks in general (most of 'us' here fall into the one or the other category or both) surely will, but that's not enough to make a Business out of that. Remember the Newton: That was a Revolution. No we will only see evolutionary development, regardless of the Apple total eclipsing a voluminous light source.

What with Adobe announcing that they're bringing Premiere back to the Mac platform--maybe they got whiff of Apple coming out with a Design Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/DreamWeaver competitors) that Apple will announce at MacWorld?
Or maybe Apple will just add a photo editing and drawing program to iLife and/or iWork? And those apps will be the basis for the pro suite (just as iPhoto begat Aperture and iDVD begat DVD SP)?

There will be a new Mac Pro announced, possibly a speedbump, or more. When I loaded the apple.com page and hovered over the welcome to 2007 photo, it gave me the apple.com/macpro link preview at the bottom.

My prediction is they will release a Mac Pro mini and a external illuminated keyboard. That would be so cool. The keyboard might also be aluminum. :D :D :D :D :D :D
that image is decidedly un-apple. the balance is all off and the light rays aren't coming from a consistent source. the distortion in the upper left of the apple coupled with the bit mark being cropped make it look more like a rotten apple.
The light source is a Dell logo. 2007 sees the licensing of OSX...

Well, if It were going to happen it would be with the release of 10.5 and Apple seems to be making no push into the value consumer or prosumer markets.

It does seem that NZ is way down the list (as is Australia).
I'm wondering if Apple can make a different kind of DENT in this problem.
TV has evolved hugely
1) The Internet is global. Why have country specific deals?
2) What will iTV be called?
Could Apple cut a deal with SOME studios for worldwide distribution rights? Some networks do have global control of their existing content. New content hasn't got licenses yet... If Apple could usher in this concept it'd be huge.
(same goes for music)
And to the name of iTV. iPod is Apple's baby and it's become synonymous with music players. Does Apple want a new name for it's iTV that becomes synonymous with Internet entertainment? We're sinking in acronyms (DVR, VoD, HD-DVD, SDTV, etc). Or do we just keep the plain old TV (tele=distant, vision=vision) acronym?

Or do we just keep the plain old TV (tele=distant, vision=vision) acronym? At the risk of being pedantic, TV is neither an acronym, being formed from a single word, nor a properly constructed compound, since tele comes from Greek and vision comes from Latin.
