did anyone know that when you head to www.wikipedia.com and search for Steve Jobs the image to the right displays his image and that below is his financial status. It clearly states

"Salary: $1 USD[3]"

Tell me what you think

Errrr... really old news. Steve Jobs has drawn $1 in salary from Apple from the time he was hired back with the purchase of NeXT. What is there to opine about? Salary is only one means of compensation.

He does, obviously, get benefits like a corporate jet, and stock options, the valuation of which are currently causing regulatory headaches.

That's correct. He's really compensated though in the form of stock, sometimes backdated, and a jet.

He does officially make $1 though.

Clear evidence that the business world is a crooked and stupid place, filled with all of the poetic grace and beauty of a frat brother's first gang rape.

Steve's paycheck may only be $1, but his salary is millions upon millions. It's a billion percent about image, presentation, and marketing, and not a whole hell of a lot of anything else.

The $1 thing is well known (http://news.com.com/Apple+again+pays+Jobs+1+salary/2100-1047_3-6049166.html) and the information comes from Apple financial statements.

This is absolutely true, or at least it was. If you read on to the "Return to Apple" section, forth paragraph it goes into more detail.

edit: I swear I refreshed the page before I posted to make sure no one else had posted.

Very old news. New to wikipedia?

Well, it could be worse...he could be getting all those stock options etc., AND a salary in the tens of millions/year. Like some greedy people do. At least he seems to have the sense to realize that when you're already worth zillions of dollars, you really don't need to bother with a salary too...the money can go to more worthwhile things.

But yeah, really really old news....

I'd be happy with one of every new product when it came out :D

But the lack of a G5 laptop is like not getting a Christmas bonus. :(

To the OP, old news.

Reference living on $1 per year salary. That is what he is officially paid by Apple. He also receives stock, options, a jet, etc.

He also gets income from Pixar.

Regardless of his current income, I am sure that he has more than enough invested to live comfortably from his investment income. If not, he can always sell a share or two of Apple or Pixar or ...

He also gets income from Pixar.
Now that source of income is gone. He probably gets some compensation from Disney for serving on their Board of Director (http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/bios/steve_jobs.html)s.

I really don't think that the largest shareholder of Disney would go hungry even if he stopped adding to his wealth annually.

Hypothetically, a company I heard of paid a VP $80,000/year, now his "expense account" - that was another story...

I actually think it's more of a joke. He didn't even technically work at Apple for a while, then he refused to be the CEO, only taking "interim CEO" title - or iCEO.

I don't think steve is being an evil marketing genius - just humoring himself.

Woz remains on the payroll even though he has no current role at Apple.

I think the $1 salary thing is more than just a joke. He really doesn't need the money and is amply compensated in other ways that are more tied to the company's performance. I wish more CEOs would do this instead of taking big paychecks while running their company into the ground at shareholder's expense.
