What do you guys think? Buy the mac mini to go with my very old monitor or buy a refurb macbook....that I've been drooling over for just a few hundred more...I keep going back and forth. This will be my first mac, although I'm quite used to them...someone I lived with had one and I just got hooked on hers. She had a G4 Powerbook

Go with the refurb, I think you will enjoy it more and get more out of it. The mobility is nice and it will feel like you have a new computer. The mini wouldn't look new and its still just a core duo.
EDIT: However wait till after Macworld
There might be new minis and you might be able to pick up a clearence display IF there are new displays.
