View Full Version : Weird, iTunes forgetting my song names!

Recently, in both my Library and selected playlists, certain song and album names are blank. :(
But if you double click on the song to play it, the song name reappears. What gives?
Anyone else with this problem?
The songs do not seem to be unique, imported whole albums and mp3s a like.
I have repaired premissions (if that's even important in this matter) but it was unsuccessful.
Any input to this mystery would be appreciated!

That happened to me when I didn't have permission to edit the files. I ended up having to copy the files to somewhere else, deleting them from my itunes and just dragging the folder full of them back onto my library. Simply setting myself as the owner of the files didn't seem to help.

I guess I can do that, but what I'm really interested in is WHY this is happening.
What did I do? If anything at all...

yeah! i had this same exact problem. i had no idea how to fix it...i got tired of double clicking, so i just did a cmd-i on the song and then kept clicking on "next song" to go through the list.
for some reason it chose all songs of certain artists...but only down to the letter e. very strange, very random.

DUDE!
Do we have a trend here?
I'm going to try and think about these "nameless" songs and see if I can find a trend between them.
I have to find a solution!

Maybe, so what do you think would be the best way to fix it? Maybe iTunes could change file permissions (seems dangerous)? Or maybe iTunes could make a copy of a song that the user doesn't have permission to edit? I don't know, it all seems dangerous, I really just chalk my problem up to bad management of files. But that's just me, you two might actually be having issues with iTunes.

I'd try repairing permissions, running some cron cleanup scripts, etc. if I were you.
Try cocktail for instance to do this.

I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try...

yeah! that happens to me too all the time!!
grrr. it's so annoying. sometimes i just put all of the nameless ones on a playlist and set it playing before i leave for school... but that takes forever (considering that right now i have in excess of 1500 nameless files)

mine does not forget names, but it does seem to forget where a lot of files are stored. i wish i knew why it was doing that. they are files that have stayed in the same place for a long time, so it is not like i am moving them around... oh well.
