View Full Version : Are you going to buy iLife 07?

Well, I searched around and couldn't find anything, so here we go! It's a simple question, are you going to buy iLife 07 or not? I know I will, because I do a lot of work in iPhoto and Garageband, so it will be nice to have the latest version of all of those. Plus I get the education discount so I get it for cheaper. What about you?

Yes I probably will I use iPhoto alot and I hope iLife 07 brings a lot of updates to it.

Unless there's some sort of significant new functionality in it that I find really useful -- no.

Well hey, we may get a spreadsheet application if the rumors are true. That could come in handy.

None of the above: I want to see the features before I decide...

Well that would be a part of iWork, which I do plan to buy, with or without "Numbers".

Nope.

I'm not making any major purchases this year, my plans for 2007 means that every penny counts.

However, when I come back, sometime in 2008, I'll be buying a new iMac or MacBook pre-installed with Leopard, iLife '08 and whatever other goodies Apple decide to include. :)

I'll buy iWork 07 just for Kenyote 4 unless Apple brings nothing new to the table.

OT, but I've been using the trial version of iWork '06 for a while and really like it. Especially Keynote. I've got high hopes for '07. :)

I hate iPhot right now. Some of my family photos are randomly disappearing.

(Don't get me wrong, all the original versions are still in the "Originals" folder, but they come up with that grey exclamation mark when trying to view them in my Library.

At $79, $99 for the family package, for me this is a no-brainer. Besides, I want to continue support for the R&D effort.

I will be buying it as long as the new features warrant it, but it won't be straight away as I am broke.

Jan 6, 2007, 04:35 PM
Yep. I've only got '05 at the moment, so it'll be worth it for me just for all the extra themes, effects, etc. I tend to use iDVD quite a bit, and the update to Garageband also makes it worthwhile.

I don't even use iLife 06.

Jan 6, 2007, 04:51 PM
Well I only really use iTunes, so short answer is...no...

I'm use the pro apps for everything

imove- final cut
garage band- soundtrack
iPhoto-apeture

etc. etc. etc.

if those aren't enough reasons to buy pro apps over iLife, i don't know what is!

Not unless it comes packaged with a dual quadcore Mac Pro. This would mean that I actually found a high paying job, so No.

I'll probably buy it...the family pack for the family network o'Macs.

Hopefully that will be compatible for both intel & non-intel macs...that's what I currently have.

I use it mostly for iphoto cataloging stuff along with iphoto library manager. I suppose I could get Apeture for that instead. I always say I'll do more iDVD and iMovie work with slideshows, but that never seems to happen.

I'm tired of buying iLife.

For example:

GarageBand: Don't need it... I use Logic Express 7
iPhoto: I use it but, only for organizing my Photos, need to save up for Aperture
iDVD: Never use it
iMovie: Use it once in a while, I could stick with the current version
iTunes: Usually free
iWeb: I do all of my web coding in TextEdit

Since I've got iLife '05, I'll probably buy the '07 version, along with iWork.

I'm not sure iWeb is worth much to me but an updated iDVD might be.

Yes, unless the new features are extremely disappointing.

Yes, i'll buy it. I use iPhoto a lot. And as previously mentioned that way i support the development for future iProducts.

Jan 7, 2007, 01:45 AM
Yeah, I'm definitely buying.

iWork '07 comes with a 30 day trial with iLife, (I assume, they did last time) and I'll try it out and then if I like it enough, will then pay for a license .

I've been thinking about it. I've said No as the only part of suite that I've used more than a handful of times is iPhoto. But now I've move over to Aperture I won't need an iPhoto update.

I have used iLife once and that was just iDVD...

Only a light user if iPhoto & iWeb so I don't think they'll be anything to warrant the purchase.

clevin
Jan 7, 2007, 07:47 AM
nope, i only use iTunes, which can be download from apple, never use others, I also give up iPhoto (using other simplier, faster and free stuff).so really not worth it.

Unless something stunning comes out in iMovie (Livetype Light-esque perhaps), probably not since I'm likely to buy a new Mac this year and will get it with that.

When do we find out what will be new in iPhoto? I just bought a new Mac mini...should I wait for the new version before I do anything? I'm trying really hard to come up with a great plan of action to organize about 25000 files and would love to think iPhoto could handle it gracefully...can it now? If not, do you think it will after the upgrade?

Thanks!

LastLine
Jan 7, 2007, 08:02 AM
Doubt I'll get it. I don't need it for my Macbook (I rarely use the iLife suite on it) and to be honest, the iMac'll probably be replaced by an Intel verison later this year too.

Thanks!

Tuesday. Not too long to wait.

I will be buying iLife this year since two of my computers in my home are running the first version of iLife and my iBook is one year behind. It's a good time to buy it with my education discount and get all the computers upgraded again.

I think I'll wait awhile and make sure I don't hear myriad "It's really slow on my 2GHz Rev B iMac" comments. I'm on iMovie '05 on my iMac and '06 on my iBook. The former is easier to use (bigger screen) but the latter has more themes/lets me make calendars, etc. I'm fed up with that discrepancy and I'd like to get '07 put on both.

Are the life and work applications typically revealed closer to mwsf or have then been introduced at all different times in the past?

For the last few years at least both iLife and iWork have had the major updates ('04, '05, '06) introduced during the Keynote at MWSF.

I'll upgrade. I don't know how they can improve on '06, it's a rather spiffing application suite.

Jan 7, 2007, 09:45 AM
i recon they may update the look of mac os x for leopard so finder safari etc look different, but unless you buy ilife 07 they will not make iphoto etc look better, this would make people more likely to upgrade.

if they do this, i will upgrade simply to get a consistant gui.

Jan 7, 2007, 09:59 AM
I'll probably upgrade to Leopard when it comes out, and if I do, will iLife 07 come with Leopard on the install discs?

If it doesn't, I'd really have to see the updates. I use iPhoto for my pictures, and I'm planning on buying an M-Audio keyboard soon for Garageband. I'd be best off to skip the '07 update and wait till '08 if it's not packaged in with Leopard.

I'll probably upgrade to Leopard when it comes out, and if I do, will iLife 07 come with Leopard on the install discs? No, it's only bundled with a(ny) new Mac.

You can purchase regular or family pack versions of iLife 07 at fairly favourable price, though.

Not likely. there would really have to be some major changes/improvements. I might however upgrade to iWork 07 (from 05)....

Whoa... this thread really took off! Now that i think about it, unless iLife 07 comes with big improvements, iLife 06 meets my needs for now. But iWork on the other hand, I havn't ever used and if I start using it, I may upgrade every other uear.

Doubt it....I bought iLife '06. and don't use enough for updates for all the Apps.

iWork 07 on the other hand I'm very eager to buy...as i didn't buy iWork '06 and have an intel Mac
