External hard drive acting as a mini server??? it may be a weird idea (and potentially cheap idea) but could this work?? I have a pc and my mac networked with a router.

I was wondering if it would be possibly to attach a external hard drive via a usb connection to the router to act as a server like device, to basically store saved files, mp3s and important documents that both computers could see, use and write to.

If so would the external drive need to be formated in HFS+ as i believe FAT32 can only by formated to a certain size??

I have one by Lacie that that you can connect to your network by ethernet. It's Fat 32 formatted, which limits the maximum file size to 4gb, but I don't have any enormous files.
