lately i've been getting the light gray screen as i bootup on my MacPro (Quad Xeon 3GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.4.8, XPSP2).

no, not the kernal panic screen; just the light gray color you see as if the Apple Logo will appear... but it doesn't. and it just stalls there.

the only way to boot back in, is to hard restart, and then hold down the option-key. then the 2 drives for OSX and Windows show up, and i choose one or the other.

it happens frequently now, but not every single time. it doesn't do it after i reset PRAM once, but then after another restart it comes back again.

i did the usual fixes: repair permissions/disk, fsck, reset PRAM (multiple times), bless OSX, choosing OSX as main boot drive from System Preferences, etc.

would love to hear any other possible fixes. either OSX or Windows. thx.
