It'll probably never happen, but this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6244153.stm) is one of the weirdest things I have read this year.
The BBC is in talks with Morrissey to represent the UK at the Eurovision song contest. The mind boggles

You do realise I would probably explode with happiness if this was to occur :D

Don't get me wrong - I like Morrissey and the Eurovision is always entertaining, but the two seem so ... incompatible.

Well he couldn't be any worse than that gobshite Stockport County supporter from Stockport we went with last year.
Although I did vote for him to be the UK entry. Can't think why :D

It was dire, but I seem to remember there being a bit of political voting going on too. :p

It'll be even worse this year. Every year another eastern European country decides to split in two because they hate each other, but come Eurovision they immediately give each other 12 points to say sorry. So you get the remains of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia spending the evening in one big love-in, and the poor old UK, France and Spain pushing up the bottom of the table. This year's latest 12 points each partnership will be Montenegro and Serbia.
Independence for Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man I say. That ought to be worth a few points :p

Anyway – I reckon it would be a great idea to get someone like Morrissey to sing our entry. It gets the thumbs up from me.
* I don't know if this is what people from Stockport are actually called, but if it isn't, it should be. ;)

Stopfordians, and unfortunately his chavviness was quite typical of a Friday night in Mersey Square, so he's probably a hero to a lot of the locals :p

Good match, on a par for irrelevancy.

Well this would go down well with all the generations in the calculus household. It would make such a lovely change from the usual bunch of no hopers.

Stopfordians...Really? I feel like I've learnt something today! :)
I can imagine his chaviness earning him some fans in these parts too, unfortunately...

Morrissey would be a great entry for the UK but you DO know that as soon as that happens, Sweden will go with ABBA, Belgium will bring back Celine Dion, etc...etc... I enjoy watching Eurovision but I agree with dynamciv completely! It's far too political and that really does take a lot of the enjoyment away from the show. There should be strict rules enforced IMHO.
The problem is...how do you get rid of the politics???

...Belgium will bring back Celine DionThe lovely Miss Dion repesented Switzerland, in actual fact. ;)
The problem is...how do you get rid of the politics???A non-political Eurovision? How would that actually work?! :D

Looks like he's written his entry (http://news.bbc.co.uk/nolavconsole/ukfs_news/hi/bb_rm_fs.stm?news=1&bbram=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1&nbwm=1&nol_storyid=6258283&checkedBandwidth=bb&checkedMedia=ram&subtitles=hide&alreadySeen=1) already

I hope it's better than that. I know it's a joke but really:o
The UK will never win the Eurovision. It's all about politics in Europe and voting for the country that shares a border with you. :apple:

Former Smiths singer Morrissey will not be involved with the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC has said.
He first expressed an interest in taking part after Daz Sampson's song, Teenage Life, came fifth from last in the 2006 contest.
"I was horrified but not surprised," he said. "Why didn't they ask me?"
In January, the BBC said it was talking to the singer to write and possibly perform a Eurovision track but now says he "definitely will not" be involved.
A spokeswoman for the corporation said: "The BBC approached several artists and Morrissey was one of those that expressed an interest.
"Unfortunately, we were unable to go ahead with him being involved and we can now confirm that he definitely will not be taking part in this year's competition."

Yup - saw this this morning. It would have been spectacular if it had happened, but it always seemed really unlikely.

So we lose Morrissey and gain, amongst others, ex-darkness frontman Justin Hawkins, ex-East 17 singer Brian Harvey and ex-Atomic Kitten singer Liz McClarnon.

Don't forget Big Brovas as well.:p
Justin Hawkins is working with a singer called Beverlei Brown to bring Eurovision back home. It could be our finest hour.
But with the cost of the Olympics, can we really afford it? Of course we can!!!!:D

Foursome Scooch have won the contest to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in May, despite a blunder over the announcement of the final winner.
There was confusion in the studio when Making Your Mind Up hosts Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton simultaneously announced different winners.
Well, there we have it.
I wonder what song from Bulgaria will win it?
