I was wondering whether anyone here uses the Apple emate and whether it accepts CF storage for files.
How good is it for word processing and games? Thanx!

My dad won a emate 300 as a draw prise back in 1997. I was the only one who used it. It was nice for once a month when i had a school project that only needed basic text. Now it sits in my closet collecting dust. The battery still works great but im not sure how long it lasts. As for other software it has almost no usefull software built in other then a basic word processor. Finding games(if they exist) or apps would be hard but good luck finding a way to transfer them too it.:(

Those are really lame. Actual Newtons are much cooler (and more useful).

The emates were supposed to be for schools, right?

And thus lacking all the benefits of the Newton.

Got one almost new in box from eBay - still at reasonable prices. A great collectible...

I bought an eMate a couple of years ago for my eBay business. I do auctions for hire. I go to someone's house, snap a few pics & write up a description on the eMate & then go home & hook it up to my iMac & make the auctions. I love it because all I need is a glorified typewriter & that is what it is. So I reccommend it IF you understand what it can & cannot do.
Now I just need to find out a way to get it to sync in OS X instead of OS 9 so when I pick up that 24" iMac I can still use the eMate.
As far as the word processing, basic but good.
As far as games, very weak in my opinion.

It was Apples first move away from beige and grey boxes to the "Think Different" industrial design and translucent plastics that bought Apple back from the brink. At least for that it should get some respect!
