I'm sure there's something obvious that I'm missing here but right now I'm stumped. I want to import some wav files (one from this site: http://www.wavsource.com/sfx/sfx2.htm) into GarageBand to use as sound effects. When I try to import a wav from that page (and other wav files) I get this error:
"The audio file 'file.wav' has a 8 bit format and can't be used."
The files play fine in quicktime.
I've tried opening them in Audacity and saving as wavs with different specs, and also AIFFs. The best I can do is import the file, but its sped up so much as to be unusable.
Hope that's a clear explanation. Any ideas?
Thanks!

OK, I did figure something out. The wav files are 16 bit mono and 11025Hz. The main file (after export from GarageBand) is Stereo, 44100Hz, 32-bit float. So I guess the question is how (is it possible) to convert an 11025Hz file into 44100Hz without speeding it up. (Apologies if this is a really dopey question.) Thanks.
