I am almost done downloading the Yellow Dog Linux (ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/yellowdog/iso/yellowdog-5.0-phoenix-20061208-PS3.iso) (3.3GB, free) and will go ahead with installing it onto my PS3.

Just curious if anyone has any experience doing this. Ultimately I'm hoping to get my PS3 as a drive on my wireless network and to enable viewing movies over the network and/or supercede having to convert any movie files into PS3 video format (aka PSP, or iPod formats) to view them.
I have the 60gb Wireless PS3.

Cheers,

I have YDL installed, but haven't had much time to "play" with it.
I am usually gaming or not home.....

Do you recall how long installation took?

Total time....about an hour to an hour and a half
If you've already downloaded/copied the bootloader - and have started the install.....
It shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to actually install all the packages.

Wireless doesn't work with YDL yet as there is no dirver for the wifi card :( kind of makes it less useful for me but I still gotta play around with it some more once I find the time to do so!
