Hello,

I recently got an iMac G5 at a price that I couldn't pass up, unfortunately it only came with an 80gb harddrive. I have been searching for SATA hard drives for a replacement, but it seems that the one I want does not say it is compatible with Macs. It is the Western Digital 500GB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive. Does anyone know if I would be able to use this drive if I formatted it with Disc Utility, or is the hardware itself just incompatible with Macs. I was under the impression that I could install any harddrive as long as it was SATA. Thanks for the help.

I am 99% sure you can put in any SATA drive you want in there, unless there is a specific hardware conflict with a certain brand and model number. (which a quick google search would reveal)

Thanks. I tried searching for the model number but I couldn't find anything relevant. I'll probably just go with that model and see what happens.
