Description:: An investigation into the ongoing trademark dispute between Cisco and Apple over the name "iPhone" appears to show that Cisco does not own the mark as claimed in their recent lawsuit. This is based on publicly available information from the US Patent and Trademark office, as well as public reviews of Cisco products over the past year. The trademark was apparently abandoned in late 2005/early 2006 because Cisco was not using it...

It's a misleading title for the MacBytes article...as far as the USPTO is concerned, the trademark is valid. Cisco submitted the Declaration of Use documents and the USPTO validated them.

But, as the article points out, the USPTO appears to have been duped. The photo Cisco submitted to prove that the trademark was in use simply shows a sticker saying "iPhone" pasted on a product box that wasn't (at that time) called the iPhone.
