Ok, this is one that I can't find an answer to anywhere.
This morning, all of the icons on my finder bar disappeared. I have lost Spotlight, bluetooth, fast user switching, battery life, etc. I have tried going into System Settings and have added items back, but they don't show up.
I've also tried repairing permissions, but no luck there either....
Haven't been able to find this issue in the MacRumors forum or Apple's website.
Any ideas? :(

Have you installed that Front Row hack?

1. Did you try a reboot?
2. Go to <your user name>/Library/Preferences and drag the file com.apple.systemuiserver.plist to your Desktop. Reboot or log out/in.
3. If you create a new user account, does it still happen?

Does it under both existing users.
He suggested creating a New User. It will make a little bit of a difference

Even in the new user account?
Did you search through the Preferences folder or did you do a Spotlight search?

I looked through the preferences folder of my (admin) account, and did a spotlight search....didn't find it.
New user acted just like my account.

Boot from you install CD and "Repair Disk"
If you don't know how...
Insert you Mac OS X install DVD or CD 1.
Restart while holding down the "C" key.
When the Mac OS X installer program launches ignore it.
Select "Utilities>Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Click on your hard drive's name from the sources list.
Hit the "Repair Disk" button (not "Repair Disk Permissions")
Your computer will act like it's frozen but it's not. It just takes awhile.
Hopefully that will fix it.

Does that mean you are going to reinstall Mac OS X or shoot your computer?

Felt like doing a little bit of both!!!
Finally ended up backing up all of the "important" files and libraries. Reloaded OSX and restored (after a little research and a really good article in recent MacWorld). Everything seems to be up and running nicely now.
I have to say that from someone who has done a lot of Windows installs (in fact, I'm an IT instructor at a college), this is my first MAC OS install, and it couldn't have been easier. In particular, the ability to plug into my iMac and have it copy all of my applications over instead of having to reinstall them.
However, one small issue remains. Occassionally, when I open my Powerbook and try to wake it from sleep, I will hear the CD and Hard Drive Power up, but I don't get any video. I have to pull the battery and restart the machine. It happened about half the time before my reinstall, and after about 10 times it finally did it again.
