What is this thing? It's like $300. What does it cover? Is it worth it?

It adds two years of parts & labor & phone support onto the initial 1 year warranty.
It does not cover accidental damage.

The thing is called AppleCare.

What does it cover depends on what protection plan you buy. Definitely worth it.

How can they afford to do that? Are these legit for new Macs? They are the only ones that I have found at that price. What is the catch???

Can be had for even less on eBay. A few members on here have purchased Applecare on eBay and the transaction was smooth. I'm tempted...
