View Full Version : First Song on my Mac!

Hey everyone, here's a link to my new PureVolume profile and the first song that I ever recorded on my macbook! It's very short, but I think it could develop into something quite nice.

I'm not entirely sure I like some of the stuff that GarageBand has in it and am thinking about maybe moving to Logic.

I normally record on my PC with a high quality recording interface and Abelton Live Lite, but that program (full) is like $500 that I don't want to spend.

The two guitar parts are actually me playing guitar, the bass, drums, and strings are musical typing.

Any comments, suggestions, criticisms are greatly appreciated!

Thanks Again!

You're right, it does certainly have the ability to develop into something quite nice!

Just don't spend too long working on it, otherwise it will turn into a monster. Have you thought about recording some real live drums onto it?

Great! It left me wanting to hear more :) It'd make a great intro for a song

That's exactly what I wanted to say, but the words didn't quite come to me...

You can play it or download it in the top right of the page. There's a player with a playlist.

Thanks a lot, everyone!

Any thoughts as to whether it should be entirely instrumental or should I record lyrics into it?

I like it too! As to vocals... what you got in mind? Can't answer that question in principle, you know. If you got something really interesting, go for it, it can add to the composition. On the other hand, if you intend to put your own voice on it, and your voice or vocal technique happens to be a disaster, then, um... don't do it! So, you know, it depends. Experiment maybe with cutting in some vocals you scored somewhere else, and see what hits you - maybe female vocal? Or kids? Be creative and see where it takes you.

Here's something for inspiration: Brian Eno said that the advantage to working in a studio is that you get to crash airplanes without killing anyone. So experiment away, it's not like you can't undo unsuccessful tries. You only lose if you never try. Good luck!

Great advice from OldCorpse. I thought the song was great. It felt like the beginning to something really good.
